About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Manager / Principal Attorney to support its Global Trade Compliance team. This role will focus on reviewing business operations for compliance with U.S. export and import regulations, including ITAR and EAR. The ideal candidate will have advanced trade compliance expertise, strong legal and analytical skills, and experience handling investigations, disclosures, and regulatory matters in a highly regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct compliance reviews of business units to assess adherence to ITAR and EAR requirements.
- Support investigations involving potential trade compliance violations.
- Analyze issues, document findings, and prepare voluntary disclosures related to non-compliance.
- Conduct interviews and prepare detailed written summaries.
- Research applicable export and import regulations.
- Draft correspondence and communications for U.S. Government agencies.
- Support compliance reporting, recordkeeping, and file management.
- Participate in working groups, training programs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop and improve compliance processes, procedures, and controls.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of export control experience, including investigations; OR Master's degree with 6+ years of relevant experience; OR JD with 4+ years of relevant experience.
- Experience serving as an Empowered Official in the defense industry.
- Strong knowledge of ITAR and EAR regulations.
- Experience using OCR EMS export management software.
- Strong analytical, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and independent decision-making.
- Ability to work effectively in a highly regulated, matrixed organization.
Preferred Qualifications
- 4–5 years of experience as an Empowered Official managing voluntary disclosures under ITAR and EAR.
- Experience working within large, highly regulated organizations.
- Experience developing compliance processes and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
- Legal, regulatory, or compliance certifications are a plus.
Work Location
This is an on-site position in Falls Church, Virginia. Local candidates are preferred.
