About the role

The Assistant Controller is a hands-on position focused on accounting, internal controls, financial planning & analysis, and business partner support to Manufacturing/Operations. This role ensures accurate and timely financial reporting, coordinates the month-end close process with Financial Shared Services, and collaborates with the Director of Finance to develop and prepare financial forecasts. The position leads internal and external audit activities, performs compliance reviews and reconciliations, and supports department managers with budget-to-actual and detailed transaction reporting. It also oversees ASC 606 Revenue Recognition (Percentage of Completion) and works with program managers on financial performance.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze month-end and month-to-date financial and statistical data to identify variances from budget/forecast/prior year and develop improvement plans with operations.
  • Lead the month-end financial close, including preparation/review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and SOX control evidence.
  • Maintain procedures and controls to ensure Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and a strong control environment.
  • Support weekly reporting requirements, such as financial performance updates, operational key metrics, and other KPIs.
  • Lead and prepare the annual operating budget and monthly forecasts (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cashflows), and oversee the budget accountability process with budget owners.
  • Act as the subject matter expert on ASC 606 Revenue Recognition (Percentage of Completion), including reviewing month-end adjustments, maintaining inputs, and forecasting analysis related to timing of revenue recognition.
  • Analyze cash flow forecast for receivables and payables, and coordinate forecast and actual reporting with Financial Shared Services.
  • Provide financial support for key site improvement initiatives, including project accounting, pricing controls, program reporting, margin improvement, and cost reduction programs.
  • Support and lead continuous improvement initiatives for Operations and Finance.
  • Liaise with segment/corporate accounting, internal and external auditors to ensure accurate and complete financial records in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley, GAAP, and CIRCOR Accounting Policies and Procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; MBA a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably including cost accounting or financial analysis.
  • Experience with ERP and financial systems; IFS Cloud and BPC are a plus.
  • Understanding or prior experience applying accounting and finance concepts in a US DoD manufacturing environment (CAS, DFARS, FAR, TINA, etc.) is a plus.
  • CPA or CMA desired.
  • US citizenship required.

Skills

  • Prior management experience leading a small team preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial performance drivers, accounting principles, procedures, and systems with a solid understanding of internal controls.
  • Ability to research, retrieve, organize, and summarize data sets for financial reporting and ad-hoc analysis.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various business partners and self-motivate to drive results.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; Power BI a plus.
