About the role
The Senior Manager of Client Accounting will lead the day-to-day execution of financial processes for a portfolio of captive insurance clients. This role requires hands-on experience in insurance accounting, particularly in the context of captive insurance, and a proactive approach to systematizing and automating processes.
Responsibilities
- Own monthly and quarterly close activities for a book of captive participants, including journal entries, reconciliations, premium and loss accounting, intercompany activity, and financial statement preparation.
- Serve as a day-to-day point of contact for client finance teams. Field questions, walk clients through their financials, and follow through on requests without needing to be chased.
- Partner with the technology team to codify accounting workflows into the Luzern Risk platform. Identify repetitive manual work, propose automations, and adopt new tools quickly.
- Build and maintain clear documentation for the accounting processes you run. Make your work repeatable so the team can scale.
- Support annual audits, regulatory filings, and domicile-specific reporting requirements for our captive clients.
Requirements
- 5 to 10 years of professional accounting experience.
- Insurance accounting experience required; captive insurance accounting experience is a strong plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.
- Comfort working directly with clients and presenting financial information.
- Demonstrated interest in financial systems, automation, and technology adoption.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Remote role; must be able to work core hours that overlap with US Eastern time and be open to traveling to HQ in New York a few times a year.
- Curiosity: A yearning to deeply understand the captive insurance industry, our clients, and our business. You ask questions, take notes, and come back the next day sharper than the day before.
- Systems thinking: You see opportunities to standardize and automate the work you do. You are eager to partner with engineers and product to make the platform better.
- Client presence: You are comfortable on a call with a client controller or CFO, can explain accounting matters clearly, and represent Luzern Risk well.
Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN).
- Current RN license for the state that you are working in (or willingness to obtain).
- Certifications: BLS-AHA, ACLS-AHA, NRP, NIHSSFetal Monitoring Certification is required.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- 2 full years of acute care experience in this specialty.
