Senior Manager, Institutional Giving

We are seeking a passionate Senior Manager of Institutional Giving to advance social justice by identifying, stewarding, and securing funding from institutional donors, including private foundations and corporations. This role requires approximately 30% travel.

• Results-Driven: Proven track record of soliciting and closing major institutional gifts, growing a fundraising program, and balancing big-picture thinking with attention to detail. Skilled in follow-through in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.
• Strategic: Ability to develop and implement strategic plans for institutional donors. Knowledge of evolving trends in foundation and corporate fundraising and translating them into actionable goals.
• Collaborative: Works independently and as part of a team. Skilled at aligning programmatic staff goals with funder priorities.
• Articulate & Influential: Highly skilled in verbal and written communication, including persuasive presentations and grant proposal writing/editing.
• Resourceful: Ability to identify, research, and cultivate prospective institutional donors while managing and expanding a donor portfolio.
• People-Manager: Experienced in hiring, training, setting performance goals, assigning duties, and conducting performance reviews.
• Mission Alignment: Demonstrates commitment to SPLC’s mission, vision, and values.

Responsibilities

• Establish a vision and strategy to maintain and grow SPLC’s institutional donor portfolio under the supervision of the Director of Major Gifts and Institutional Giving.
• Write, edit, and prepare high-quality, compelling grant proposals and reports for institutional funders, collaborating with the Director and programmatic staff.
• Manage a team of three using SMARTIE (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Timescale, Inclusion, and Equitable) objectives, providing coaching and mentorship.
• Supervise two support staff (part of the three-person team) to assist broader team operations.
• Liaise with program, communications, and monitoring/evaluation departments to present programmatic impact compellingly.
• Maintain systems for prospecting, cultivating donors, and tracking grant deliverables.
• Develop and implement fundraising strategies for foundations and other institutional prospects.
• Uphold JEDI principles by engaging diverse collaborators and ensuring their contributions align with SPLC’s mission.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 7 years of development/fundraising experience in a nonprofit organization; experience with institutional funders preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of management experience.
• High school diploma or GED.

Pay

This is an exempt role with a minimum starting salary of $101,000 annually, commensurate with experience.

Schedule

• Local Remote: Expected to attend in-person work-related activities (trainings, meetings, events, hearings, court appearances) at SPLC offices or operational states.
• Telework: Eligible to work two days (16 hours) per week from an alternative location.

This role reports to the Director of Major, Mid-Level, and Institutional Giving and requires approximately 30% travel.
