Senior Manager, Industrial Engineering
About the role
The Senior Manager, Industrial Engineering leads productivity improvements by developing, planning and implementing process automation projects. This role leads a team of engineers on continuous improvement activity aimed at optimizing distribution center operations. These projects may include process redesign, layout changes and development of long-term improvement plans. This role supports manufacturing and re-manufacturing processes in our Bartlett, Tennessee facility. In this role, the Senior Manager, Industrial Engineering supports strategic initiatives designed to optimize operational performance in distribution and manufacturing processes.
Responsibilities
- Management, Industrial Engineering
- Lead a team of Industrial Engineers (IE) to complete time studies and line-balancing exercises to proactively identify performance improvement opportunities that impact performance efficiency
- Mentor and lead the engineering teams as an SME on process design and value stream mapping (VSM) activity
- Manage engineering resources to support 5S and shop-floor layout planning for workplace optimization (WPO) improvements
- Address complex issues and adapt to changing departmental plans
- Provide subject matter expertise on capacity assurance methodologies, root-cause problem solving techniques and the use of process tools (e.g. 5-why analysis, Ishikawa, and DMAIC)
- Continuous Improvement and Technology
- Lead the team in shop-floor interactions with the operations teams to identify capacity improvement opportunities and introduce process automation where it is needed
- Develop technology solutions through a thorough understanding of advanced manufacturing engineering (AME) best-practices utilizing technology and automation
- Develop engineering projects, participate in the request for proposal (RFP) process, source vendors, and manage projects to stay within budget
- Develop and deliver executive level communications for project approvals showing a clear return on investment (ROI)
- Strategy & Long-Term Plans
- Develop and manage the industrial engineering portfolio (a 5-year strategic plan)
- Collaborate with the Health & Safety department to improve equipment safety and develop a pre-production safety review process that includes a design review to ensure safety and ergonomic standards are met before equipment delivery and installation
- Financial Management
- Develop and manage budgets for capital projects related to efficiency improvements and the integration of new technology applications
- Develop cost-savings strategies and ensure project plans are executed within budget constraints
- Provide a clear return on investment as part of project maturity process
Qualifications
- Education Level: Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Management or related field
- Experience Level: 8 + years of a combination of experience spanning the following areas:
- Experience within an industrial engineering role
- Experience working in operations, supply chain or a related industry
- Experience leading large-scale continuous improvement initiatives and network optimization projects
- 3+ years of extensive experience completing efficiency studies, data analytics, performance reporting, and project management
- Licenses/Certifications: Six Sigma Black Belt Preferred, Six Sigma Green Belt Preferred
- Software/Technical Skills: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook), AutoCAD 2D, Project Management (MS Project or equivalent) Preferred
- Other Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: 5S & Workplace Optimization (WPO) experience, Systematic Layout Planning (SLP), Richard Muther and Associates Method Preferred

About Where We Work
Brother’s corporate headquarters for the Americas is in Bridgewater, NJ, across from the Bridgewater Commons Mall. This location houses key corporate functions, including HR, legal, finance, IT, and supply chain, and a significant presence of our business unit leadership and marketing teams. Our manufacturing and distribution facility in Bartlett, TN spans an impressive 1.5 million square feet - equivalent to 26 football fields - and is located on Brother Boulevard. In addition to the distribution center operations team, this facility hosts several other departments, including our customer service group. Brother also has employees based in other locations, such as Westminster, CO, where many of our marketing and product engineering team members from the mobile solutions division operate, as well as our distribution centers in Richmond, VA and Perris, CA.
