About the Role

The Associate Director of Global Supply Chain is accountable to lead a team of salaried (Supervisors and Planners) and hourly supply chain staff in a manufacturing area. A leader in the organization, you will be responsible for leading and guiding your team to successfully execute material planning and scheduling, receiving & storage, assembly sequencing, shipping, inventory management, engineering change management, and supplier management. The role is responsible for implementing the Allison Operational Excellence through exceptional collaboration, leadership, and guidance. This position also implements lean material principles and cost reduction initiatives and is expected to develop and execute departmental goals aligned with the organization’s objectives.

Responsibilities

Leadership / Managerial

  • Hire, lead, and manage a dynamic team to create an inclusive and collaborative work environment
  • Monitor, evaluate, and provide regular feedback on employee growth and implement improvements as needed
  • Drive employee engagement and retention initiatives to maintain a motivated workforce – positively represent corporate communications to influence outcomes that support business strategies
  • Ensure compliance with Allison Policies and manage employee relations matters as needed
  • Directly manage a team of Supervisors and Material Planners with indirect oversight of 50+ hourly employees
  • Responsible for full employee life cycle including selection, training, development, employee relations, and performance management
  • Responsible for performance management, training, and development of team members aligned with career ambitions and areas of opportunity to improve, including annual performance reviews and Individual Development Plans (IDPs)
  • Lead team and implement departmental objectives aligned with plant & company objectives through day-to-day management, annual performance reviews, and corrective actions
  • Create, develop, and sustain a can-do climate and high levels of frequent communication, cooperation, rewards and recognition, training, and mutual support among departments
  • Guide team to solve complex and challenging situations as they arise
  • Provide a physical presence in the workplace to lead and promote a culture of accountability and teamwork
  • Ensure Allison Transmission policies and procedures are adhered to and executed in area of responsibility

Union Relationship Management

  • Engagement with shop committee
  • Grievance management
  • Adherence to Collective Bargaining Agreement

Shopfloor Accountability

  • Drive performance across area of responsibility aligned with overall plant objectives and strategy
  • Manage the execution of lean materials processes including the Kanban (pull) system, min/max, FIFO, and risk alerts
  • Manage outside non-routed & routed sub-contract and consignment processes to avoid plant impact
  • Direct and manage inventory cycle counting activities in compliance with corporate guidelines
  • Develop manpower plan to support overall customer demand and operations
  • Manage receiving, shipping, and material storage in assigned plant, and warehouse management movements where applicable
  • Manage the planning, scheduling, and delivery performance of vendor supplied parts
  • Communicate daily with external suppliers, as well as third party logistics provider, to ensure adherence to schedules and uninterrupted flow of material
  • Manage the sequencing of the plant assembly line(s) to avoid customer impact
  • Oversee and manage manufacturing bill-of-materials and engineering change management process
  • Manage additional responsibilities such as indirect materials (general stores), defective material return (DMR) shipping processes, business development analyses, etc.

Strategic / Forward Looking

  • Provide input to company budget and forecast processes, managing budget in area of responsibility
  • Support plant rearrangements and capacity increases including planning and execution of required transitional bank inventories
  • Support workforce planning activities based on company strategy and volumes to identify resource needs and training gaps
  • Represent global supply chain interests in cross-functional product line team analyzing business opportunities
  • Forecast and optimize inventory levels to meet customer demands while minimizing working capital
  • Manage recovery planning and prioritization of activities associated with internal disruptions to minimize impact to customer schedules

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain, Engineering or related field
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, or closely related field
  • Preferred: APICS, CPIM, SCM, or related certification

Experience

  • Required: 5+ years’ experience in leadership role
  • Required: 5+ years’ experience in supply chain role supporting manufacturing and/or warehousing environments
  • Preferred: 7+ years’ experience in supply chain role supporting manufacturing and/or warehousing environments
