Senior Manager, Environmental Health Services

About the Role

Manage the Ohm safety program to ensure personnel and facility safety and compliance with all regulatory requirements. Manage the Ohm environmental health program to ensure that Ohm facilities and operations comply with all Federal and State regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide consultation and services to corporate and site leadership regarding existing and emerging Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) issues.
• Serve as EHS representative to provide guidance on facility planning and design.
• Develop, enhance, and communicate the EHS vision and three-to-five-year strategic plan.
• Conduct all required EHS training and company-wide communications.
• Develop and communicate annual EHS goals and objectives; oversee and promote deployment of corporate EHS management systems and processes.
• Work with other departments to design, implement, and audit best processes for EHS performance on projects as assigned.
• Develop and monitor key EHS metrics (leading/lagging) to track EHS performance throughout the organization.
• Track and report safety metrics.
• Develop site-specific EHS plans, policies, and procedures to comply with internal and regulatory requirements.
• Develop and maintain programs and guidelines to meet safety and environmental regulatory requirements.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal EHS regulations by conducting self-inspections and audits.
• Ensure that safety and environmental audits/inspections are conducted and documented.
• Ensure that action items are assigned as needed to address safety and environmental issues and track to completion.
• Ensure that accident investigations are conducted as required.
• Work with site teams to develop and implement accident prevention and control methods with a focus on hazard elimination and engineering control methods.
• Determine relevant environmental issues by developing and completing air, water, waste, and analytical tests; synthesize data derived from measurements; characterize site conditions and waste materials; determine sources of pollution.
• Resolve environmental issues by researching, analyzing, selecting, and applying environmental engineering concepts, approaches, techniques, and criteria; communicate expert information; coordinate actions; review open issues and action items.
• Evaluate job tasks and make recommendations to ensure tasks are performed safely, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Manage internal company Safety Committee meetings.
• Ensure that safety training is planned and scheduled, including safety training for new employees.
• Ensure that hearing and respiratory testing is planned and scheduled for Ohm employees.
• Ensure that the electronic MSDS system is maintained up to date and ensure paper copies are provided for employees who do not have computer access.
• Establish goals and objectives, prepare performance appraisals, monitor/review work product, and coach/mentor direct reports (supervisory position).

Work Conditions

• Office Environment: Standard office setting.
• Manufacturing Environment: Exposure to manufacturing/production environments.
• Noise: Sufficient noise, either constant or intermittent, to cause marked distraction or possible injury to sense of hearing.
• Fumes: Smoky or vaporous emissions, usually odorous, thrown off as the result of combustion or chemical reaction.
• Odors: Unpleasant smells.
• Gases: Examples include carbon monoxide and ozone.
• Dust: Airborne particles of any kind, such as textile dust, wood, and silica.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, and bend.
• Must be capable of bending and lifting, moving and/or carrying up to approximately 50 pounds.
• Ability to navigate office, lab, and/or plant floor working environments, stands, ambulates, and reaches.
• Must have the ability to wear applicable personal protective equipment utilized at the site, including but not limited to respirators, safety glasses/goggles, and safety shoes.

Travel

Up to 10%.

Requirements

• Minimum of a B.S. in a science-related degree or closely related field. M.S./PhD preferred.
• Professional Certifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) highly desirable.
• Regulatory Expertise with complete knowledge of local, state, and federal Environmental, Health, and Safety Regulations.
• Strong computer literacy and application capability.
• Ability to identify hazards.
• Able to develop and deliver training and development activities.
• Able to conduct Accident/Incident Investigations.
• Demonstrated excellent communication: verbal, written, and presentation skills.
• A self-starter with a hands-on approach and a can-do attitude.
• A team-building champion driving innovative cross-functional synergies.
• Excellent project management and problem-solving skills.
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with people at all levels.
• Knowledge of environmental management programs and related software is considered a plus.
• English language proficiency at Intermediate-B1+ (comparable to Global CEFR Independent B1) level.

Experience

Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in the Management of Safety and Environmental Health programs, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

Pay

The presently-anticipated base compensation pay range for this position is $93,000 to $132,500. Actual base compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to geographical location and experience.
