About the role
The Senior Manager will lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating the clinical, legal, and operational risks associated with patient care events across the Rochester, Minnesota practice. Grounded in the principles of a Communication and Resolution Program (CRP), this role will build and sustain the operational infrastructure for event intake, triage, escalation, documentation, patient and family communication, caregiver support, and longitudinal follow-up.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a comprehensive Clinical Risk Management strategy that integrates patient safety, caregiver support, regulatory compliance, and enterprise risk management.
- Implement the governance and operational capabilities needed to manage complex patient care events and emerging clinical risks, applying principles of just culture, trauma-informed communication, human factors, and organizational learning.
- Partner with Clinical Operations, Quality, Patient Safety, Patient Experience, Legal, Finance, and executive leadership to ensure a coordinated, consistent, and compassionate response to patient care events.
- Engage in proactive trend monitoring, translating insights from events, claims, and regulatory activity into mitigation strategies, education, and system-level improvements.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to physicians, administrators, and executive leaders, helping the organization navigate potential patient harm, regulatory scrutiny, professional liability exposure, and reputational risk.
- Build training, coaching, and staff support programs that advance trauma-informed communication and just culture practices.
Qualifications
- Must be security clearance eligible.
- A master’s degree with nine years of experience or a bachelor's degree with 11 years of experience in a risk related field, which includes design of independent projects, data analysis and interpretation.
- Must have ability to organize and implement procedures/techniques independently.
- Must have significant technical knowledge, understanding of subject matter standards, industry standards, and regulations.
- Must have the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in written materials, and the ability to work both independently and in a team.
- Must have the ability to be flexible and adaptable to a changing work environment that requires continuous professional development.
- Must have established presentation and training skills and be capable of demonstrating and exhibiting positive consultation/customer service skills.
- Must have appropriate knowledge of computers, applications, software, artificial intelligence and databases to administrate the tools selected for use in designated functional area.
- Mastery of Microsoft Office tools including SharePoint is preferred.
- Must be resourceful and willing to exercise personal initiative.
- Silver Quality Fellow preferred.
- Experience in a large academic medical center and the ability to work in a matrix organizational structure, working collaboratively in a diverse work environment.
- Demonstrated experience with intra/intergovernmental relationships and the ability to facilitate, coordinate, and negotiate at all levels of government to achieve results is preferred.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of healthcare accreditation is preferred.
- Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), Certified Healthcare Provider Continuity Professional (CHPCP), Certified Healthcare Security Administrator (CHPA).
- Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified in Privacy Compliance (CPH) or comparable certification is preferred based on designated functional area.
