Senior Manager, Card Risk: Vertical Risk Manager

About the role

As a Senior Risk Manager on Capital One’s Card Risk Team you will apply your risk management, project management and analytical skills to the highest‑profile risk initiatives. You will work hand‑in‑hand with business partners to identify and mitigate potential risks, lead and advise on transformational initiatives, and collaborate across the enterprise to develop and implement cutting‑edge risk solutions that support Capital One’s continued growth and profitability.

Responsibilities

• Work with business teams and key stakeholders to develop well‑designed products, processes, marketing, and supporting technologies while implementing risk management practices; support business partners on risk/return trade‑off decisions.
• Lead risk framework discussions and drive creative solutions to improve the risk profile.
• Participate in risk forums and business reporting routines; contribute to continuous improvement of risk management practices.
• Lead ad‑hoc projects to improve processes or control environment to mitigate risks.
• Synthesize data and reporting; perform analysis and provide proactive business insights based on data from team analysts.
• Drive and deliver results and improvements aligned with the business’s well‑managed and risk‑focused agenda.
• Stay abreast of the changing regulatory environment and understand its impact on supported business areas.
• Collaborate effectively across multiple levels and organizations, including risk, compliance, legal, privacy, operations, enterprise management, and other business support functions.
• Support, partner with, and interact with internal business clients.
• Build relationships and collaborate with key stakeholders, driving cross‑functional opportunities to grow the brand, processes, and an enhanced risk management environment.
• Set direction, manage expectations, and lead cross‑functional teams.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or military experience.
• At least 5 years of experience working in risk management or financial services.
• At least 4 years of program management experience.
• At least 4 years of experience supporting, partnering, and interacting with internal business clients.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree.
• 6+ years of project management experience leading cross‑functional projects and programs in risk.
• 6+ years of program management experience leading cross‑functional risk programs.
• 6+ years of financial services risk management experience.
• 3+ years of experience in Agile or design thinking.
• 4+ years of compliance, legal, audit, or first/second line risk management experience.
• 4+ years of project or process management experience.
• 3+ years of experience in reporting and analyzing data.
• Certified Risk Management Assurance (CRMA) or Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) certification.
• PMP, Lean, Agile, or Six Sigma certification.

Pay

Full‑time annual salary ranges (by location):

• McLean, VA: $177,700 – $202,800 for Senior Risk Manager.
• Richmond, VA: $161,500 – $184,300 for Senior Risk Manager.
• Other locations: salary range will correspond to the local market and will be reflected in the offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance‑based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonuses and/or long‑term incentives (LTI). Incentives may be discretionary or non‑discretionary depending on the plan.
