Senior Manager, Card Risk: Vertical Risk Manager

As a Senior Risk Manager on Capital One’s Card Risk Team, you will apply risk management, project management, and analytical skills to high‑profile initiatives, partnering with business leaders to identify and mitigate potential risks and ensure the company remains stable and profitable.

Responsibilities

• Work with business teams and other key stakeholders to develop well‑designed products, processes, marketing, and supporting technologies, implement risk management practices, and support risk/return trade‑off decisions.
• Lead risk framework discussions and drive creative solutions to improve the risk profile.
• Participate in risk forums and business reporting routines, contributing to continuous improvement of risk management practices.
• Lead ad‑hoc projects to improve processes or the control environment to mitigate risks.
• Synthesize data and reporting; perform analysis and provide proactive business insights based on data from team analysts.
• Drive and deliver results and improvements aligned with the business’s well‑managed and risk agendas.
• Stay abreast of the changing regulatory environment and understand its impact on supported business areas.
• Collaborate effectively across multiple levels and organizations.
• Collaborate between risk, compliance, and other business support functions (e.g., legal, privacy, operations, enterprise management) to achieve objectives and support timely delivery of top priorities.
• Support, partner with, and interact with internal business clients.
• Build relationships and collaborate with key stakeholders, driving cross‑functional opportunities to grow the brand, processes, and an enhanced risk management environment.
• Set direction, manage expectations, and lead cross‑functional teams.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or Military experience.
• At least 5 years of experience working in risk management or financial services.
• At least 4 years of program management experience.
• At least 4 years of experience supporting, partnering, and interacting with internal business clients.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree.
• 6+ years of Project Management experience leading cross‑functional projects and programs in risk.
• 6+ years of program management experience leading cross‑functional risk programs.
• 6+ years of financial services risk management experience.
• 3+ years experience in Agile or design thinking.
• 4+ years of Compliance, Legal, Audit, or first/second line Risk Management experience.
• 4+ years of Project or Process Management experience.
• 3+ years of experience in reporting and analyzing data.
• Certified Risk Management Assurance (CRMA) or Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM).
• PMP, Lean, Agile, or Six Sigma certification.

Pay

Full‑time annual salaries vary by location: McLean, VA – $177,700 – $202,800; Richmond, VA – $161,500 – $184,300. Candidates hired in other locations will receive the pay range applicable to that location. The role is also eligible for performance‑based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonuses and/or long‑term incentives.
