About the role

As a Senior Manager, Application Development at CIBC, you will lead cross-functional development teams and oversee several large-scale projects and support functions for key business lines. You will provide technical and strategic direction, ensuring best-practice development, high-quality delivery, and alignment with organizational goals. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 2-3 days per week on-site at our Chicago location, while other days may be remote.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team. Maximize team contributions and professional growth through effective motivation, knowledge sharing, and collaborative problem-solving. Foster an inclusive and diverse work environment.
  • Guide the development and implementation of complex software solutions across multiple platforms. Drive best practices in architecture, coding, and quality assurance. Champion the integration of AI coding assistants and modern development tools. Mentor junior engineers and support their technical growth.
  • Provide expert communication with C-suite and key technical partners for governance and tollgate forums. Demonstrate strong technical storytelling ability for recommendations and solution proposals.
  • Build strong partnerships with business and technology stakeholders, including product owners and business leaders. Advise on technology solutions that drive business value and innovation.
  • Translate business requirements into robust system and application designs, collaborating with architects to ensure alignment with CIBC’s technology roadmap and strategic objectives.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of technology roadmaps. Lead multiple technology initiatives, ensuring consistency, best practices, and continuous improvement.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies, particularly in AI, cloud, and data engineering. Identify and implement opportunities for innovation, efficiency, and automation.
  • Lead teams through organizational and technological change, ensuring adoption and engagement. Experience leading teams through change and transformation.
  • Set objectives, measure outcomes, and provide feedback. Commitment to fostering an inclusive and high-performing team environment.
  • Ensure familiarity with cybersecurity best practices and regulatory requirements relevant to banking/financial services.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience in .NET (C#) application development, SQL Server database design and optimization, data technology stack (SSIS, Azure SQL, REST APIs), BI tools (Tableau, Cognos, Power BI), and Databricks for scalable ETL pipelines and data models.
  • Solid knowledge of DevOps practices including environment management, security, pipeline management, compliance, and release management with proficiency in Jira/Azure DevOps for taxonomy, story writing, estimation, and velocity measurement.
  • Proven experience managing large-scale projects/programs, including budgeting, resource planning, and vendor management/third-party solution integration.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, RESTful APIs, microservices, and cloud platforms (Azure preferred).
  • Experience leading a team of developers and testers for 4-5 years. Ability to coach and help develop other team members.
  • Hands-on experience in Software Design using SOLID Design principles.
  • Familiarity with foundation AI models (e.g., GPT, BERT, Llama) and integrating AI/ML solutions into enterprise applications. Understanding of AI model fine-tuning and customization.
  • Strong experience with AI-powered coding agents (e.g., GitHub Copilot).
  • Degree/diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, Management Information Systems, or a related field of study.
