About the role

Be the backbone of Atlassian’s Agentic AI Integration Products. The Agentic AI Integrations team is responsible for the industry-leading Rovo MCP Server, Agent to Agent integrations, and is on the mission to catapult Atlassian value by leveraging cutting-edge AI capabilities like Claude Skills, ChatGPT/Claude Apps. Essentially, we work on anything and everything with AI integrations into the Atlassian ecosystem.

You’ll have the knack to work on bleeding-edge AI technologies, passion to explore and learn transformative AI technologies, and the ability to quickly pivot from prototyping new initiatives to building highly-scalable enterprise-grade AI products used by thousands of developers and enterprise users.

You’ll bring a system mindset and technical acumen, with attention to security, scalability, reliability, and maintainability, and experience driving technical decisions in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership: Build, coach, and mentor a team of software engineers.
  • Technical Strategy: Deliver foundational components for multi-agent systems and lead the adoption of protocols like MCP and A2A.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with Product, Platform, and Data Science teams to embed AI capabilities across Atlassian.
  • Operational Excellence: Maintain high-reliability services (4 9s SLA) while optimizing for cost and latency.
  • Industry Influence: Contribute to open specifications and represent Atlassian in AI interoperability working groups.

Requirements

  • 8-10+ years in software development with at least 4+ years in people management.
  • AI Expertise: Hands-on experience with AI/ML platform engineering, model serving, or agent frameworks (LangChain, Semantic Kernel, etc.).
  • Technical Stack: Proficiency in Python, TypeScript, or Go.
  • Systems Thinking: Experience with high-scale distributed systems, vector databases, and observability pipelines.

Qualifications

  • Stellar people management skills and experience leading an agile software team.
  • Thrive when developing phenomenal people, not just great products.
  • Worked closely with Data Science, Analytics, and Platform teams.
  • Expertise in building and maintaining high-quality system components and services.
  • Able to drive technical excellence, pushing for innovation and quality.
  • At least 8-10 years of experience in a software development role as an individual contributor.
  • 4+ years of people management experience.
  • Hands-on experience in AI or ML platform engineering, including model serving, MCP, A2A, or workflow orchestration.
  • Strong understanding of emerging agent frameworks, context protocols (MCP, LangChain, Semantic Kernel, etc.), and LLM-based system design.
  • Proficiency in modern programming languages such as Python, TypeScript, or Go.
  • Proven track record of leading cross-functional engineering initiatives and mentoring technical teams.
  • Operating a highly reliable (4 9s SLA), cost-optimized, low-latency, and high-throughput Cloud service.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with MCP architecture, A2A specification, and agent collaboration frameworks (e.g., MCP servers, UI clients, and adapters).
  • Experience with observability, vector databases, and secure model-to-model communication.
  • Background in enterprise integration patterns, API governance, or developer experience platforms.
  • Contributions to open-source AI frameworks or standards development initiatives.

Pay

At Atlassian, we strive to design equitable, explainable, and competitive compensation programs. In the United States, we have three geographic pay zones. For this role, our current base pay ranges for new hires in each zone are:

  • Zone A: $209,700 - $273,775
  • Zone B: $188,730 - $246,398
  • Zone C: $174,051 - $227,233

This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity. Please confirm the zone for your specific location with your recruiter.
