Senior Malware Analysis Specialist
About the Role
In this role, you won't just run automated tools—you will dive under the hood to dissect complex, malicious binaries through static and dynamic analysis. You'll unravel intricate code structures, uncover hidden functionality, and extract actionable Indicators of Compromise (IOCs) to power threat detection and mitigation strategies across the enterprise. If you love solving messy technical puzzles, staying ahead of sophisticated adversaries, and bringing your creative, authentic self to solve tough mission problems, Team Nyla wants you on the front lines with us!
Required Skills
- Reverse Engineering Mastery: Hands-on experience reverse engineering complex malware binaries using disassemblers and decompilers (e.g., IDA Pro, Ghidra, Binary Ninja).
- Deep Technical & Binary Analysis: Demonstrated capability in analyzing malicious binaries to determine functionality, system impact, and underlying evasion mechanisms.
- Indicator Extraction & Threat Detection: Proven ability to identify, extract, and document Indicators of Compromise (IOCs) and translate findings into effective detection rules (e.g., YARA, Snort, Sigma) and mitigation strategies.
- Malware Analysis Methodologies: Experience applying both static analysis (code analysis, headers, imports) and dynamic analysis (debugging, sandboxing, behavioral observation).
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cyber Security, or a related technical discipline, PLUS 7+ years of professional experience in reverse engineering, malware analysis, or software development
- OR Master's Degree in a related field, PLUS 5+ years of specialized technical experience
- OR High School Diploma / GED, PLUS 11+ years of relevant hands-on experience in reverse engineering and low-level code analysis in lieu of a degree
Desired Skills
- Signature Creation: Experience crafting custom YARA rules or SNORT signatures based on binary findings.
- Scripting & Automation: Proficiency with Python or C/C++ to build custom plugins, automate routine triage, or unpack payloads.
- Network Protocol Dissection: Experience analyzing packet captures (PCAP) to correlate binary execution with network traffic patterns.
- OS Internals: Deep understanding of OS API calls, process execution models, and memory management mechanics.
