Senior Maintenance Technician, Mechanic I

About the role

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for troubleshooting and repairing mechanical equipment throughout the site, using personal decision-making to ensure minimal disruption to the production process. This department provides services to the entire facility 7 days a week. A Mechanic may work in one or more plant areas, handling multiple assignments during any given shift. Call-ins are a requirement of this position. This role demands a high level of self-management, punctuality, good attendance, and adaptability to a variety of tasks.

Responsibilities

• Repair, replace, and install equipment including pumps, screw conveyors, rotary valves, relief valves, motors, conveyors, and auxiliaries such as pipes, flanges, gaskets, mechanical seals, and filters.
• Align, disassemble, and rebuild production equipment such as reciprocating compressors, steam turbines, bearing members, gearboxes, and pumps.
• Utilize precision tools like micrometers and calipers for equipment repair; operate drill presses, hydraulic presses, pedestal grinders, mill equipment, and lathes.
• Work independently or in small groups to install, repair, and replace equipment, including pumps, valves, motors, and other process equipment.
• Use a variety of handheld tools, applying up to 100 pounds of torque to disassemble mechanical units. Tools may be manual, electrical, or pneumatic.
• Walk and stand on various surfaces (concrete, asphalt, metal grates, diamond steel plates) for approximately 5-6 hours per day. Climb up to 5 flights of stairs 3-4 times daily and kneel, crouch, or crawl to access restricted work areas.
• Work in varying environmental conditions, including outdoor temperatures ranging from -32°F to over 100°F and indoor temperatures exceeding 110°F.
• Adhere to food safety, legal, and quality requirements to ensure products are fit for human consumption.
• Comply with all environmental standards, procedures, and work instructions; report violations or near misses.
• Fully participate in the safety program, including reporting incidents, near misses, and auditing.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 2 years of experience as a mechanic in industry and/or technical education in industrial maintenance.
• Minimum of 2 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment.
• Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematics.
• Experience in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical equipment throughout the site.
• Knowledge of types and uses of valves, and ability to change, repair, and align pumps.
• Proficiency with precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers) and operation of drill presses, hydraulic presses, pedestal grinders, mill equipment, and lathes.
• Familiarity with reading and working from blueprints and/or single-line drawings.
• Experience with maintaining high-speed rotating equipment (e.g., turbines, compressors) preferred.
• Ability to align, troubleshoot, disassemble, and rebuild production equipment (e.g., reciprocating compressors, steam turbines, centrifugal pumps) preferred.
• Basic welding skills preferred.
• Ability to use computerized maintenance software.
• Understanding of and compliance with GMP regulations.
• Good understanding of electrical, instrumentation, and hand tools.
• Knowledge of how to work with a Hart Communicator, multimeter, and basic computer skills.
• Ability to calibrate instruments (flow, pressure, level) and read/troubleshoot electrical diagrams.

Schedule

• Required to work 8-hour shifts, 12-hour shifts, rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays to maintain 24/7/365 plant operations.
