Senior Machinist / Shop Manager

At Axon, we're on a mission to Protect Life. Our San Francisco office houses a mechanical engineering team and prototype shop that supports our global engineering efforts.

Responsibilities

• Prototype Machinist:

  • Create high-value, low-to-mid quantity machined parts and assemblies for prototyping and testing.
  • Develop efficient machining solutions for simple to complex challenges.
  • Communicate design issues to engineering to ensure correct part fabrication.
  • Leverage various CNC machines using Fusion 360 or manual programming, selecting appropriate tools and creating workholding solutions.
  • Conduct test runs, inspections, and troubleshoot machine operations.
  • Optimize toolpaths, machine setups, and perform general maintenance.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and coordinate with other shop teams.

• Shop Manager:

  • Manage and maintain a variety of equipment including 3D printers, laser cutters, force-deflection stands, high-speed cameras, and other tools.
  • Purchase and maintain materials and components.
  • Train and assist engineers in safe use of shop and equipment.
  • Outsource fabrication of parts that cannot be made in-house.
  • Develop and document shop standards for cleanliness, safety, and efficiency.
  • Work with other facility teams to comply with OSHA safety standards and hazardous waste regulations.

Requirements

• Minimum 5-7 years of experience in a dynamic CNC machining environment, including shop management and maintenance.
• Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (Fusion 360 and PTC Creo preferred).
• Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and design mechanical assemblies.
• Basic mechanical engineering knowledge.
• Math skills for engineering calculations.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Eligibility to pass Axon's mandatory internal ATF training.
• Self-motivated and enthusiastic attitude.
• Attention to detail.

Base Pay Range: $103,500—$165,600 USD
