Senior Machinist

Responsibilities

  • Follow established work instructions and company procedures to ensure safe, quality production.
  • Set up tool registers, mills, lathes, drills, Bridgeport, switches, offsets, and perform complex CNC program editing on computerized equipment for defined runs with limited supervision or assistance.
  • Read and edit G-code programs.
  • Run and set up multiple types of equipment, including Swiss tool machines, twin spindle lathes, multi-axis VMCs, pallet changers, and horizontal mills.
  • Perform routine machinery maintenance, run visual tests on broken or worn parts, and maintain inventory records of machine replacement parts.
  • Understand production flow and its impact on plant metrics and customers.
  • Detect malfunctions in equipment and non-spec parts, and provide corrections.
  • Interpret blueprints and title block GD&T; calculate dimensions and tolerances using mathematics and precision instruments (calipers, gauges, indicators, micrometers, etc.).
  • Communicate status and updates of the machining group to other departments.
  • Follow safety procedures and guidelines in the assembly process.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Lead cross-training and new hire training activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility: Indirect through training new associates.

Requirements

  • Certificate in machine shop technology or technology/machinist—preferred associate degree.
  • 5+ years of experience in a machining environment beyond post-secondary or trade school education.
  • A recognized apprenticeship may be required.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of mathematics.

  • Ability to work independently with high attention to detail.
