Key Responsibilities

  • Design automated machines and manufacturing processes in accordance with defined technical, quality, and safety standards.
  • Lead cross-functional project teams by managing timelines, assigning work, and providing clear technical direction throughout project execution.
  • Review engineering and quality documentation to ensure compliance with Applied Medical manufacturing quality systems and project requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal partners and guide outside department team members to enable effective information transfer and project alignment.
  • Specify off-the-shelf machines and automated production equipment to support manufacturing and process needs.
  • Identify and specify production lines that require automation to improve efficiency, quality, and scalability.
  • Mentor and guide entry-level engineers by reviewing work, providing technical feedback, and supporting professional development.
  • Partner with internal functional teams and external vendors to deliver integrated automation solutions.

Position Requirements

  • Holds a bachelor of science degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Designs and troubleshoots fixtures, prototypes, and automated machines incorporating electro-mechanical components such as sensors, safety systems, pneumatics, and drive systems.
  • Designs, modifies, and troubleshoots complex automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Updates and reviews three-dimensional computer-aided design models using SOLIDWORKS and maintains accurate bills of materials using Microsoft Excel.
  • Performs design of experiments to determine optimal equipment parameters and process performance.
  • Writes and updates maintenance manuals, manufacturing instructions, and calibration procedures for new and existing equipment.
  • Understands and follows Applied Manufacturing quality systems per training requirements.
  • Understands and complies with company safety rules and policies.
  • Holds greater than five years of experience in automated machine design.
  • Works in clean room, laboratory, and manufacturing environments as required.
  • Holds equivalent hands-on experience as an engineering technician or machine designer in lieu of a formal degree when applicable.
  • Brings experience leading automation projects in regulated manufacturing environments such as medical device production.
  • Demonstrates proven ability to guide junior engineers and drive technical excellence across teams.
  • Applies strong problem-solving skills to complex, multi-variable automation challenges.
