Senior Manufacturing Automation Design Engineer

Key Responsibilities

  • Design & Development Engineer manufacturing processes, machinery, support equipment, tooling, and procedures.
  • Create efficient plant layouts to optimize material flow and space utilization.
  • Lead machine construction, component manufacturing, integration, installation, and startup.
  • Manage tasks to meet project timelines and budgets.
  • Investigate and resolve equipment issues using data analysis and root cause methodologies.
  • Research and select automation components and material handling systems.
  • Partner with Fastener Engineering to support new product designs and equipment modifications.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and legal standards.
  • Maintain timely reporting, participate in meetings, and manage projects.
  • Develop and improve safe work methods and manufacturing techniques.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • 7-10+ years of experience in high-volume manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated experience & levels of responsibility in designing and troubleshooting automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Knowledge and application of engineering and technology skills with a focus on problem-solving, innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with internal/external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks CADD software; AutoCAD experience is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally periodically.
  • Willingness to commute daily to other ITW Construction Chicagoland locations and Northern Illinois machine builders/OEMs dependent on project assignments.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Value Stream Mapping, and capital projects is a plus.
