About the Role

Provide technical leadership and execution support for the mechanical, electrical, piping, and fire protection (MEPFP) disciplines for power sector projects. Lead day-to-day development, coordination, and delivery of MEPFP systems across all phases of the project lifecycle, ensuring alignment with project requirements for safety, quality, performance, budget, and schedule.

Work closely with project teams, field leadership, design partners, OEMs, and trade partners to resolve complex system challenges, support constructability, and ensure successful installation, testing, and commissioning of major power plant systems. Contribute directly to estimating, system development, bid analysis, scheduling, quality control, and commissioning, while ensuring engineering decisions are practical, executable, and aligned with project and commercial objectives.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Report to Engineering Services Leadership Team.
  • Lead initiatives to strengthen the company’s technical capabilities within the power sector.
  • Build and develop a team of M/E engineers while establishing consistent approaches and reinforcing technical standards that enable scalable, high-quality project execution.
  • Lead the delivery of reliable outcomes and advance the company’s presence in power generation.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

  • Learn and actively participate in all aspects of the company’s safety and quality plans and culture by demonstrating commitment to an injury-free environment through individual actions and mentoring others.
  • Complete entry-level and routine mechanical, electrical, and field construction activities.
  • Learn how to develop budgetary M/E estimates based on program and schematic design information using an automated M/E estimating system.
  • Assist in reviewing mechanical and electrical options as part of the preconstruction process and complete systems analysis for select projects.
  • Learn to develop mechanical and electrical scopes of work used to coordinate during the bid process.
  • Assist in completing bid analysis and provide input during the subcontractor selection process.
  • Assist in developing sequencing requirements of various systems and provide solutions to meet schedule requirements.
  • Gain knowledge of design documents to identify potential quality problems and assist in developing constructability review reports.
  • Learn to perform job inspections to ensure specifications and expectations are met and work is completed in a quality and timely manner.
  • Learn and assist with the shop drawing/submittal process to comply with contract documents.
  • Assist with the commissioning process, including developing pre-functional checklists, functional testing procedures, and actual functional testing.

Additional Core Responsibilities

  • Complete increasingly complex mechanical, electrical, and field construction activities.
  • Develop budgetary M/E estimates based on program and schematic design information.
  • Review mechanical and electrical options, complete systems analysis, recommend the best system for the project, and provide value engineering suggestions.
  • Coordinate mechanical and electrical scopes of work during the bid process.
  • Develop sequencing requirements of various systems and provide solutions to meet schedule requirements.
  • Provide scheduling input during projects.
  • Review design documents and identify potential quality problems.
  • Help develop quality control programs.
  • Perform job inspections at various times in the project to ensure specifications and expectations are met and work is completed in a quality manner.
  • Develop pre-functional checklists and functional testing procedures.
  • Verify contractor’s performance of functional tests.
  • Review and approve shop drawings prior to submitting to the design team.
  • Generate and issue the Commissioning Plan for approval to the appropriate parties.
  • Verify deficiencies are corrected and submit commissioning documentation to owners.
  • Provide mentoring to less experienced co-workers.
  • Create M/E tools and innovative solutions to continuously improve processes and work products.
  • Negotiate subcontracts with subcontractors.
  • Participate in interviews for winning work, presentations, and business development efforts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, architectural engineering, or related field (Required). In lieu of the above requirements, equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
  • 10+ years construction management experience (Preferred).
  • Proven track record managing major power generation projects.
  • Expertise in EPC delivery model and risk management.
  • Established network of relationships with key industry stakeholders.

Skills

  • Ability to conduct effective presentations (Advanced).
  • Ability to read and understand plans, drawings, and specifications.
  • Ability to apply fundamentals of the means and methods of construction management to projects.
  • Proficiency in required construction technology (Advanced).
  • Proficiency in scheduling software (Intermediate).
  • Ability to apply Lean process and philosophy (Advanced).
  • Ability to manage budgets, maximize profitability, and generate future work through building relationships (Advanced).
  • Ability to prepare the project budget, GMP, or hard bid.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of power generation technologies.
  • Ability to execute successful EPC contracts.
  • Advanced understanding of natural gas and thermal power generation systems, including design, construction, and commissioning, specifically regarding electrical, mechanical, process piping, plumbing, and fire protection.
  • Valid and unrestricted driver’s license required.
