About the role
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to serve as a Design Lead on multiple projects in the power generation and distribution industry. This role involves working with internal and external teams to deliver projects that meet owner objectives, with a strong emphasis on business development activities such as securing new work, identifying prospective markets and clients, and implementing team goals.
Responsibilities
- Develop electrical design packages from conceptual to IFC (Issued for Construction) level for power generation and distribution, including specification of protective devices/relays, instruments, transformers, breakers, alternators, grounding components, and power/control wiring.
- Apply in-depth understanding of design limitations and routing for conduit, cable tray, and trench duct in high-density power applications.
- Coordinate closely with vendor packagers to develop cost-effective and timely design solutions for highly technical applications.
- Perform ETAP or SKM modeling and analyze systems coordination, arc flash, grounding, and Neher-McGrath studies.
- Develop one-lines, three-lines, breaker control diagrams, power plans, and systems plans.
- Maintain strong familiarity with IEEE, UL, NEMA, and NFPA standards for renewables, harmonics, generation, energy storage, hazardous areas, and industrial systems.
- Take ownership of reviewing vendor shop drawings for GIS switchgear, substation transformers, DCU/PLC enclosures, microgrid controllers, and complete generation systems.
- Effectively communicate with architects, owners, and contractors.
- Support other engineers with research and recommendations on new technologies and methodologies.
- Mentor other engineers and designers in critical thinking skills, industry standards, and practical engineering applications.
- Work independently and collaboratively within a strong team environment.
- Demonstrate excellent organization and time management skills to handle simultaneous project schedules.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
- 15+ years of experience with complex electrical systems in the industrial and power generation sector.
- Registered Professional Engineering (PE) license.
- Experience with Revit.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills for team-based projects.
- Strong planning and organizational skills.
- Highly motivated, proactive, and willing to take on new challenges.
- Willingness to travel (10%).
