About the role

A Loan Officer proactively solicits new residential mortgage clients while developing and cultivating a strong business network of referrals. The role involves analyzing borrowers' financial and credit data to determine creditworthiness and the probability of financial security in repayment efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Originate sales by contacting prospective clients.
  • Develop and maintain referral sources, spending at least one or two hours daily, two or more times a week, outside the office (including a home office) to originate loans.
  • Meet with prospective clients at locations other than PRMI’s offices, such as the client’s home.
  • Sell mortgage loan products/packages in person.
  • Use telephone, mail, and email as adjuncts to in-person client contacts.
  • Obtain credit information and necessary documentation for the application process.
  • Make in-person calls on real estate agents, brokers, financial advisors, and other potential referral sources to develop borrower leads.
  • Engage in marketing and promotional activities to support sales.
  • Develop new and continued business opportunities by cultivating relationships with realtors, builders, bankers, and other referral sources.
  • Develop solid PRMI product knowledge and offer clients the best mortgage products to match their needs.
  • Review application information and request specific supporting documentation based on loan investor guidelines.
  • Analyze and exercise independent judgment in advancing PRMI’s business objectives and customer interests regarding significant financial decisions, including:
    • Collecting and analyzing customer income, assets, investments, or debts.
    • Analyzing applicant data, credit, and collateral property value.
    • Determining which financial products best meet the customer’s needs.
    • Providing advice on the advantages and disadvantages of available financial products.
    • Marketing, servicing, or promoting PRMI’s financial products.
  • Complete continuing education in a timely manner and stay current on local developments and trends in the real estate and mortgage industries.
  • Provide origination services in the state of licensure.
  • Create and maintain excellent business relationships with a referral client base to generate new mortgage lending opportunities.
  • Coordinate with clients, in-house support staff, and external service providers to facilitate timely closings.

Requirements

  • A minimum of two (2) years of sales experience in the mortgage industry.
  • Familiarity with mortgage processes, procedures, rules, regulations, and compliance.
  • Exceptional customer service skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including working knowledge of MS Office.
  • Ability to comprehend and analyze financial information.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and present complex financial information while fielding questions from applicants, support staff, and management.
  • Established contact and referral list within the real estate and mortgage industries (preferred).
  • Ability to pass a required background check.
  • Must maintain eligibility for FLSA classification as Outside Sales Exempt and complete the quarterly certification process.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively, utilize a computer, and maintain a work schedule.
  • Physical attendance in a defined office space (branch or corporate) may be required to ensure secure privacy of borrower information.
  • Compliance with all applicable mortgage and fair lending laws and regulations, as well as PRMI policies.
  • Ability to work extended hours as required.
