Responsibilities
- Supports litigation attorneys by calculating deadlines and retrieving documents.
- Tracks critical dates and communicates information with attorneys, paralegals, and/or staff as necessary.
- Reviews court filings and enters calendar deadlines in centralized docketing software (CourtAlert).
- Searches cases using software and internet resources as necessary.
- Provides backup assistance with reviewing court filings to ensure compliance with court rules and procedures.
- Provides backup assistance for electronic court filings for state, federal district, and appellate courts.
- Affords assistance with other administrative projects or provides general back-up support as necessary.
Qualifications
- An understanding of court docketing and calendaring procedures and familiarity with court filings and general rules of court for processing pleadings.
- Excellent organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong level of knowledge of court rules and procedures in California state and federal courts.
- Strong research ability and knowledge of court rules and procedures.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and effectively.
- Flexibility to work overtime and weekends, based on department needs is required.
Qualifications (continued)
- Minimum of 4 years of prior experience in litigation docketing desired.
- Familiarity with CourtAlert (or other rules-based calendaring software such as CompuLaw, MA3000, et al.) preferred.
- Experience with firmwide calendaring preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Experience with federal, state and local court systems, including electronic filing systems (i.e. NYSCEF, NexGen, PACER, et al.).
- A general understanding of court rules and procedures in California state and federal courts and agencies is required.
