About the role
The Senior Linux Systems Administrator will manage and maintain the Linux server infrastructure supporting the Special Operation Command Information Technology Enterprise Contract (SITEC) at MacDill Air Force Base, FL.
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Linux-based systems.
- Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers and related infrastructure.
- Maintain system performance and ensure reliability and availability of systems and applications.
- Perform regular system updates, patches, and security configurations.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls.
- Implement and manage monitoring tools to ensure the health and performance of the Linux environment.
- Identify and resolve hardware and software issues and provide support to end-users and other IT staff.
- Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.
- Respond to and mitigate security incidents.
- Develop and implement backup and disaster recovery plans.
- Create and maintain scripts to automate routine tasks and improve system efficiency.

- Utilize configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef) to manage system configurations.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of system configurations, procedures, and changes.
- Provide regular reports on system performance, security status, and project progress.
- Collaborate with other IT teams to support application deployments, system integrations, and infrastructure projects.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior administrators and other IT staff.
- Enter actual time worked, submit timesheets, and complete required compliance training as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in Linux system administration.
- Proven experience with Linux distributions such as Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu, etc.
- Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, KVM).
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) is a plus.
- Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
- DoD 8570.01M IAT II certification required.
- Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) certification preferred.
- Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC) preferred.
- CompTIA Linux+ certification preferred.
