About the role

The Department of Financial Protection and Innovation is recruiting for one (1) Permanent, Full-time Senior Financial Institutions Examiner position within the Division of Corporations, Escrow and Mortgage Lending Office, Escrow Law Licensing unit. This position is located in the Los Angeles office. This recruitment may be used to fill subsequent vacancies of this position within the next 180 days.

Under the general direction of the Financial Institutions Manager (FIM), the Senior Financial Institutions Examiner (SFIE) is responsible for independently conducting reviews of license applications and amendments. The SFIE also assists the FIM in planning, coordinating, developing, and maintaining the licensing program under the California Escrow Law for the Escrow and Mortgage Lending Office (EMLO). The SFIE performs at the expert level of the examiner series, handling challenging and complex assignments that require well-developed analytical skills, with greater accountability and responsibility for decisions and actions. The position requires minimal travel.

Responsibilities

  • Independently review license applications and amendments under the California Escrow Law.
  • Assist the Financial Institutions Manager in planning, coordinating, developing, and maintaining the licensing program for the Escrow and Mortgage Lending Office.
  • Perform expert-level examinations and audits of financial institutions or related entities.
  • Make decisions and take actions with increased accountability and responsibility.

Requirements

Experience:

  • One year of experience in California state service performing the duties of a class at a level of responsibility equivalent to that of a Financial Institutions Examiner, Range C.
  • OR four years of increasingly responsible experience in professional auditing or examination of financial institutions, business firms, or services. (Experience in California state service applied toward this requirement must include two years performing the duties of a class at a level of responsibility equivalent to that of a Financial Institutions Examiner, Range C.)

Education:

  • Equivalent to graduation from college with a specialization in accounting, business administration, economics, finance, or a related business/management specialization.

Pay

$8,825.00 – $11,598.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
