Description

The Senior Librarian for the Beaufort District Collection is responsible for the development, maintenance and provision of access to the Beaufort District [Historical] Collection (BDC) (located in the Beaufort Branch Library) and local history collections at each library location. This includes acquisition, preservation, arrangement and reference service aspects of a special collection library and archival materials. The Historical Resources Coordinator is also responsible for the development of procedures and other relevant services specific to the Beaufort District Collection and resources.

Examples of Duties

  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
  • Captures and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
  • Captures, requests books, films, etc. from the Acquisitions department to support programs.
  • Completes training classes and attend professional development seminars, workshops and conferences to learn and maintain skills and knowledge for professional growth.
  • Works reference desk and answers research, informational, readers' advisory, and technology queries with a high degree of accuracy and provide excellent customer service.
  • Aids library patrons with computer use and library technology.
  • Records program statistics, compiles and submits monthly reports.
  • Plans and monitors unit budgets, reconciles cash receipts for the day and for bank deposits.
  • Researches and evaluates vendors for new or existing services, collections, and formats.
  • Maintains and oversees the upkeep of the facility.

Typical Qualifications

  • Requires Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS).
  • Over two years and up to and including four years of related experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.

Supplemental Information

All applicants tentatively selected for a position with Beaufort County Council will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for the illegal use of drugs and to a background check prior to appointment. Employment is contingent upon clearing both the drug screening and background investigation.
