About the role

The Employment Development Department (EDD) Legal Office is seeking candidates to apply for the Senior Legal Typist position at its headquarters in downtown Sacramento.

This position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the department and is subject to change as business needs arise.

Responsibilities

  • Provides secretarial and administrative support for the Legal Office staff of approximately 31 attorneys and Legal Analysts.
  • Affixes signatures to legal correspondence, pleadings, briefs, various legal notices and forms.
  • Processes incoming legal correspondence, pleadings, briefs, various legal notices and forms and prepares outgoing memorandum, correspondence and legal documents filed with administrative agencies or courts.
  • Serves as a backup to assist with maintaining Fraud Recovery Employment Development Department (FREDD) documents and assists with incoming Public Record Act (PRA) requests.
  • Works independently as well as in a team environment, have strong communication, works well under pressure, and can multi-task.

Requirements

  • Self-motivated, exhibits the ability to work independently and on a team, has strong organizational skills, is detailed-oriented, and demonstrates the core values of EDD.
  • Familiarity with legal terms, judicial forms and processes, Word and Excel, and good judgment to analyze situations accurately and take effective action.

Skills

  • Ability to work on confidential and sensitive assignments, efficiently and effectively under pressure, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience with the operations of a legal office.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, independence, and sound judgment in performing assigned tasks.
  • Strong analytical, oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to type a minimum of 40 words per minute.

Pay

  • $3,689.00 - $5,159.00 per Month

Schedule

  • This position is in downtown Sacramento, providing easy access to light rail, commuter buses, parking garages, etc.; telework will be considered.
