Responsibilities
- Litigate tax and regulatory matters in State and Federal trial and appellate courts, with a focus on complex regulatory issues and sales tax cases
- Draft Department Determinations, orders, and related pleadings for protested cases
- Serve as the agency’s subject-matter expert on complex regulatory matters and litigation strategies
- Provide leadership, guidance, and professional mentorship to junior Litigation attorneys, including reviewing work product as necessary
- Advise the Chief Legal Counsel, agency divisions, and other governmental entities (including SLED) on legal procedures, interpretation of legislation, and other matters of law
- Position may require some travel/overnight travel as necessary
Requirements
- A Juris Doctor degree or its equivalent from an accredited law school
- At least ten years of experience as a practicing attorney
- Must be a member in good standing of the South Carolina Bar and have completed Rule 403 requirements
- Academic degrees must be from an accredited institution of higher learning
Qualifications
- Experience in business litigation, state and local tax law, administrative law practice, or an accounting background
- Extensive knowledge of the law of S.C., court rules, and litigation procedures
