Responsibilities

• Litigate tax and regulatory matters in State and Federal trial and appellate courts, with a focus on complex regulatory issues and sales tax cases
• Draft Department Determinations, orders, and related pleadings for protested cases
• Serve as the agency’s subject-matter expert on complex regulatory matters and litigation strategies
• Provide leadership, guidance, and professional mentorship to junior Litigation attorneys, including reviewing work product as necessary
• Advise the Chief Legal Counsel, agency divisions, and other governmental entities (including SLED) on legal procedures, interpretation of legislation, and other matters of law
• Position may require some travel/overnight travel as necessary

Requirements

• A Juris Doctor degree or its equivalent from an accredited law school
• At least ten years of experience as a practicing attorney
• Must be a member in good standing of the South Carolina Bar and have completed Rule 403 requirements
• Academic degrees must be from an accredited institution of higher learning

Qualifications

• Experience in business litigation, state and local tax law, administrative law practice, or an accounting background
• Extensive knowledge of the law of S.C., court rules, and litigation procedures
