Senior Learning and Instruction Manager
This is a year-round, on-site position based in the Philadelphia and/or Norristown area, requiring a minimum of 4 days per week in-person at the office, schools, or Learning and Development Day venues.
About the role
The Senior Learning and Instruction Manager (SLIM) will partner with the Learning and Instruction team to support Impact Department leadership in developing and executing the site learning strategy. Reporting to the Senior Director of Learning and Instruction (SDLI), the SLIM will oversee the successful implementation of the AmeriCorps Volunteer (ACV) Learning and Development strategy, including scheduling and coordinating site learning activities.
Responsibilities
- Learning Strategy & Program Design
- Partner with Impact department leadership to design a site learning strategy centered on City Year’s culture, Clover Model, and Corps curriculum to drive Corps development.
- Oversee the yearlong scope and sequence for learning, ensuring all training from onboarding to graduation is scaffolded to meet the evolving needs of AmeriCorps volunteers.
- Customize national and local instructional content to ensure it remains relevant and effective for the varied needs of the Corps.
- Learning Logistics & Event Management
- Lead the end-to-end orchestration of major site learning events and milestones, including Summer Learning Institute, Mid-Year Summit, and Learning and Development Days, ensuring all logistics, materials, and venue setups are prepared.
- Manage site-wide learning calendars, ensuring all training operations are resource-efficient and aligned with department goals.
- Cultivate partnerships with internal and external content experts to deliver high-quality, sequenced training sessions that prepare AmeriCorps volunteers for service with students.
- Facilitator Coaching & Content Delivery
- Build the capacity of the Impact team by preparing, coaching, and supporting internal and external facilitators to deliver engaging, high-impact learning sessions.
- Model a growth mindset and a deep commitment to City Year’s values, fostering a culture of continuous learning.
- Provide actionable, data-informed feedback to facilitators and colleagues to refine their practice and ensure consistent, high-quality development experiences for all AmeriCorps volunteers.
- Data-Driven Improvement & Site Support
- Collaborate with the Impact and Evaluation teams to foster a culture of continuous improvement, using training evaluations and impact data to refine the learning approach.
- Translate data into actionable insights that inform site strategy and help Impact leadership drive student and corps outcomes.
- Serve as a collaborative partner to site departments, supporting site-wide organizational initiatives, including interview days, service events, and cross-departmental committees.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the direct supervisor to advance City Year’s mission.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s/Associate’s degree in education, business administration, human resources, or comparable experience.
- 3–5 years of experience in curriculum development, adult learning, training, and facilitation or comparable experience.
- Authorized documentation to work in the United States of America.
- Criminal background history clearance to work with school-age children.
Preferred Qualifications
- City Year/AmeriCorps experience is a plus.

Physical Requirements
- Be physically present on-site during all learning activities.
- Lift and carry instructional materials, books, and supplies up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to sit for extended periods and occasionally stand or walk.

- Visual acuity to read screens and printed materials.
- Hearing ability to participate in conversations and respond to video and phone calls.
- Ability to communicate clearly in person, by video and phone, and in writing.
Working Conditions
- Operates in a professional office setting using standard office equipment.
- Requires travel to external venues for tours and Learning Events.
- Typical schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., with occasional extended hours as needed for Service Learning Institute, Mid-Year Summit, and Learning and Development Days.
- Noise level is generally moderate.
- Requires a valid driver’s license or reliable transportation for travel as part of job duties.
- Must have reliable internet access for remote or flexible work arrangements.
Pay
The compensation range for this position is $57,000 to $62,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
