Senior/Lead Power Systems Consultant
About the role
We are looking for a Senior/Lead Power Systems Consultant to join Grid Software’s Power Technologies International (PTI) team. This role involves conducting large-scale power system studies and simulations to support electric grid planning and the reliable integration of renewable energy resources, battery storage solutions, and significant large loads into the grid.
Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth power system studies: Perform steady-state/power flow analysis, short circuit studies, transient stability analysis, and EMT simulation to evaluate the reliable integration of renewable generation, battery energy storage, and large loads into the grid.
- Develop comprehensive technical reports: Prepare detailed written reports that clearly articulate study scope, assumptions, methodologies, conclusions, and actionable recommendations.
- Ensure project success through effective communication: Collaborate closely with project managers and study teams, communicate scope and status proactively, and deliver high-quality work on time and within budget.
- Drive efficiency through innovation: Develop automation scripts and tools to enhance the speed, accuracy, and reliability of simulations and analyses.
- Lead complex power system projects: Independently perform studies, lead and coordinate small project teams, and ensure the highest quality deliverables are achieved within project timelines and budgetary constraints.
- Provide technical mentorship and thought leadership: Share expertise, guide junior colleagues, and foster a culture of continuous learning and knowledge transfer within the team.
- Contribute to business growth: Support proposal development by crafting detailed project plans, budgets, and timelines that align with client needs and Siemens’ strategic objectives.
Requirements
- Education: Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus in power systems; Ph.D. degree is highly desirable.
- Experience:
- Senior: Minimum 5 years of professional experience in the electric power industry, gained from consulting, utilities, developers, ISO/RTOs, or National Labs.
- Lead: Minimum 8 years of professional experience in the electric power industry, gained from consulting, utilities, developers, ISO/RTOs, or National Labs.
- Technical Proficiency: Extensive and proven expertise in transmission planning and/or operations, generator modeling, and generator interconnection studies, experienced user of multiple tools including PSS®E, TARA, PSLF, PSCAD, ASPEN, and others. (Python experience would be a plus)
- Travel: Up to 5% domestically each year.
Preferred qualifications
- Progressive experience working in a power system consulting environment, demonstrating client-facing skills and project delivery expertise.
- Extensive and proven experience in performing and interpreting complex power flow/steady-state analysis, dynamic stability, EMT studies, and short circuit studies.
- Proven experience in developing scripts (e.g., Python, MATLAB) to automate the execution, post-processing, and analysis of power system simulations, enhancing efficiency and accuracy.
- Strong working knowledge of NERC reliability standards (such as TPL or MOD series) and Regional Entity (e.g., ERCOT, MISO, PJM) planning guides and model quality requirements for generation interconnection.
- Deep understanding of the dynamic model and control logic. Experience of building and tuning dynamic parameters in PSSE or PSCAD is highly preferred.
Pay
The pay range for this position is $83,966 - $175,644 annually with a target incentive of 10% of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
