About the role

Our client, a nationally recognized engineering consultancy specializing in mission-critical infrastructure, is seeking a Senior Lead Mechanical Engineer to join their growing team. This is a unique opportunity to lead the design and delivery of large-scale data center and mission-critical projects while mentoring engineers, driving technical excellence, and serving as a trusted advisor to clients.

As a Senior Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will oversee mechanical design efforts from concept through construction, providing technical leadership on complex projects while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across the country. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing hands-on engineering with project leadership, client engagement, and team development.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design for large-scale mission-critical and data center projects.
  • Perform and oversee HVAC system design, load calculations, energy modeling, hydronic systems, and advanced engineering analyses.
  • Develop and review specifications, sequences of operation, and construction documentation.
  • Manage project teams, resources, schedules, budgets, and quality control processes.
  • Support projects throughout construction, including submittal reviews, RFIs, punch lists, and change order evaluations.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients and key project stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support technical development initiatives.
  • Contribute to standards development, continuous improvement efforts, and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Drive adoption of innovative digital tools, automation technologies, and data-driven engineering practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • 13+ years of mechanical engineering experience.
  • Strong background in HVAC systems, energy modeling, hydronics, and mechanical system design.
  • Experience leading complex engineering projects and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and industry-standard engineering software.
  • Strong communication and client management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a fully remote environment.

Preferred Experience

  • Mission-critical, hyperscale data center, or high-performance facility design experience.
  • Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) experience.
  • Knowledge of large-scale cooling systems and critical infrastructure environments.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical teams.
