About the role
The Senior Lead Financial Crimes Officer will play a crucial role in overseeing and governing Wells Fargo's OFAC sanctions program. This role advises various business units on customer risk, sanctions screening oversight, escalations, and other sanctions-related matters. Key responsibilities include advising leadership on objectives, plans, and long-term goals, evaluating strategic business decisions, and delivering innovative solutions.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and govern OFAC sanctions program
- Provide accurate and thoughtful regulatory guidance to business units
- Advisory to leadership on developing or influencing objectives, plans, and long-term goals
- Evaluate long-term implications and consequences of strategic business decisions
- Lead the strategy and resolution of complex challenges
- Deliver solutions that are large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, and coordination
- Lead implementation of complex initiatives with high risk
- Provide vision, direction, and full knowledge to leadership on implementing innovative business solutions
- Engage strategically with all levels of professionals and managers across the company
Requirements
- 7+ years of Financial Crimes, Operational Risk, Fraud, Sanctions, Anti-Bribery, Corruption experience
- Experience working with payment ecosystems, including major payment rails, messaging, and settlement frameworks
- Expert understanding in OFAC sanctions, risks, and typologies
- Experience working with internal bank transaction screening, monitoring, and escalation systems
- Demonstrated ability to review, analyze, and interpret OFAC licenses, FAQs, and Executive Orders
- Experience in regulatory compliance related to virtual assets
- Experience leading complex initiatives that require interacting and problem-solving with business leaders, legal counsel, or industry groups
- Experience in using advanced Excel or similar software for analytics
- Experience in conducting sanctions screening oversight
- Demonstrated ability to apply OFAC sanctions and financial crime controls to payment flows
- Master's degree in a relevant field or Juris Doctor (JD) preferred
