Responsibilities
- Perform specific tasks of increased complexity associated with conducting laboratory testing on construction materials for various projects under the supervision of lab leadership.
- Assist in preparation for and demonstrations of testing procedures as requested.
- Train and mentor other lab technicians.
- Carry out routine laboratory tests using various methodologies and testing equipment following industry standards and compliance.
- Aid in maintaining laboratory organization and cleanliness in compliance with Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) initiatives to maintain accreditation compliance with various organizations, including DOT, AMRL, CCRL, and AASHTO.
- Tasks may include calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment following the manufacturer’s schedule and records.
- Notify supervisor of broken or missing equipment as needed.
- Conduct routine laboratory tests for soils including Atterberg limits, gradation analyses, swell testing, moisture content testing, unconfined compressive strength testing, standard and modified proctor testing, and begin learning how to visually classify soils.
- Conduct routine laboratory tests for concrete including labeling and setting samples for curing, monitoring temperature logs, and breaking of samples.
- Perform calculations and data reduction based on interpretations of test results.
- Demonstrate competency of testing methods by documenting results accurately using laboratory software.
- Prepare reports and summaries, as well as additional administrative tasks as requested.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- 2 years of experience.
- Must have and be willing to maintain laboratory certifications for concrete, soils, or both depending on where work is performed.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 75 pounds.
- Willing to continue to enhance knowledge of CMT laboratory equipment, testing methods, and ASTM laboratory standards, leading to certifications in soils, concrete, or both with NICET, WACEL, or other organizations.
- Strong data interpretation and documentation skills.
- Strong communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing).
- Ability to work effectively with peers and supervisors.
