Senior Laboratory Technician
About the Role
The Senior Laboratory Technician's primary focus is ensuring that all equipment, supplies, training, facility, and laboratory materials are timely and accurately prepared so that the laboratory team can execute on the timely and accurate delivery of daily work in the Biodesix laboratory setting. The SLT is a subject matter expert (SME) across all Biodesix tests, reagents, periodic compliance activities, and equipment and is the primary resource for training new and developing Laboratory Technicians (LTs).
The SLT acts as a resource and mentor for other laboratory personnel, requiring previously acquired education, technical training, and/or experience to perform regulated clinical laboratory test realization using standard in-vitro laboratory techniques within a proprietary LIMS system and the Biodesix regulatory environment(s). A successful SLT leads and is responsible for the setup, support, and execution of daily and periodic activities of the laboratory to ensure smooth functioning while interacting cross-functionally in the organization.
The Biodesix laboratory operates 7 days a week, and therefore weekend, holiday, and evening working hours may be required. This position is designated as a Laboratory Supervisor and is expected to meet applicable qualification, oversight, and responsibility requirements under regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
- Owns mentoring and training laboratory staff to achieve competencies and assists others.
- Ensures that all laboratory equipment, reagents, and operations are properly prepared daily to meet operational demands.
- Is deemed competent in all Biodesix Laboratory defined competencies and trains all other personnel to meet their competencies.
- Completes annual continuing education (CE) requirements set by applicable regulatory and accrediting agencies and/or management.
- Performs all duties within Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Enters appropriate data into LIMS, QMS, and associated lab tracking systems.
- Performs basic and advanced maintenance, qualification, re-qualification, and housekeeping of laboratory, supplies, and non-analytical laboratory equipment following SOPs.
- Leads and assists in the creation and revision of Laboratory SOPs in the Quality Management System (QMS).
- Strives to achieve audit readiness and compliance at all times.
- Performs all job functions in accordance with HIPAA.
- Notifies management and takes appropriate corrective action for any failures in test execution, processes, facilities, and/or equipment.
- Plans, leads, and participates in Continuous Improvement Projects throughout Biodesix.
- Leads and acts as a resource for questions from colleagues in all areas.
- Leads internal manufacturing, reagents, and assembly.
- Serves as SME in other assigned lab support areas (e.g., Safety Officer, OSHA, HAZMAT, Biohazard, QMS documentation, facility repair).
- Acts as a responsible delegate according to established roles and responsibilities within Biodesix QMS.
- Complies with the Laboratory Continuing Education program and all other business-assigned trainings.
- Performs all duties and responsibilities of LT I, LT II, and LT III roles as needed.

Requirements
- Outstanding technical laboratory skills and ability to operate independently and train others.
- Excellent attention to detail with a strong commitment to thoroughness and error-free execution of procedures.
- Knowledge of lab safety and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
- Basic computer and typing skills (Microsoft Office suite).
- Ability to work well in a team environment with a strong work ethic and commitment to continuous improvement.
- Designated as a General Supervisor for all Biodesix tests.
- Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology; or equivalent laboratory training and experience meeting CLIA requirements.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience with high complexity testing in HPLC, LC-MS, and/or ELISA.
Regulatory Requirements
This role shall comply, at a minimum, with the responsibilities and qualifications outlined in:
- CLIA: Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) Requirements, Title 42 Code of Federal Regulations Part 493.
- CAP: College of American Pathologists (CAP).
- NYS CLEP: New York State Department of Health, Clinical Laboratory Evaluation Program (CLEP), New York State Public Health Law, Article 5 Title 5.
- All other applicable state and regulatory governing authorities including but not limited to: CA, PA, RI, MD.
- Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
Schedule
- On-Site in De Soto, KS - Full-Time
- Thursday to Monday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm CST
- Monday to Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm CST
Pay
Compensation rate starting at $35 per hour with discretionary bonus opportunity.
