Senior Laboratory Assistant
About the role
The Senior Laboratory Assistant at Providence Seaside Hospital in Seaside, OR, is a full-time night shift position responsible for accurately and timely receiving, processing, and labeling of laboratory specimens, and the appropriate handling and/or disbursement of laboratory data and patient results. This role supports personnel in performing their duties, registers outpatient laboratory encounters, and obtains complex demographic, insurance, and medical information.
Responsibilities
- Accurately receive, process, and label laboratory specimens
- Supports personnel in performing their duties
- Registers outpatient laboratory encounters
- Obtains complex demographic, insurance, and medical information
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge and competency on required registration functions
- Utilizes multiple computer applications to complete patient encounters
Requirements
- Coursework/Training: 2 years college education, courses in biological sciences, anatomy, and medical terminology preferred
- Experience: 3 years healthcare or related field experience, including phlebotomy-related experience
- Service Excellence experience
- Clerical or client services experience
- Phlebotomy experience in float pool and some ministries
- Demonstrated experience with regulatory compliance including CMS, CAP, TJC, CLIA, EMTALA, COBRA, and HIPPA
Qualifications
- Education: Phlebotomy program with 1 year of phlebotomy related experience, or equivalent education/experience
- Certification: Certification from a Clinical Laboratory Assistant Program, or 3 years related experience
- Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of specimen collection, preparation, and equipment operation, pneumatic tubes systems, and other laboratory equipment
Skills
- Proficiency in moderately complex testing
- Computer applications proficiency
- Excellent communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team

$22.20 - $33.97 per hour
