About the role

The Senior Laboratory Information Application Support Specialist provides expert-level application consulting, technical support, and system administration for core laboratory information systems. This role ensures compliant, secure, and highly reliable operations by overseeing system configuration, workflow optimization, and regular software upgrades. Serving as a senior technical escalation point, this specialist leads complex troubleshooting, coordinates with external software vendors, and supports the application development team.

Schedule

This is a full-time, exempt (salaried) position assigned to a First Shift schedule, with standard business hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Business needs may occasionally require flexibility in work hours, including earlier, later, or additional hours, with reasonable notice provided when possible.

Responsibilities

  • System Administration & Support
    • Maintain up-time, user access, and overall stability for LIS/LIMS platforms and middleware.
    • Troubleshoot complex application bugs, system errors, and data transmission failures.
    • Manage the application support ticket queue, prioritizing business-critical issues.
    • Act as the primary liaison between laboratory operations, corporate IT, and third-party software vendors.
  • Configuration & Interface Management
    • Configure analytical test profiles, workflow rules, calculations, and reporting formats.
    • Build and maintain HL7 data exchange interfaces between laboratory applications and Electronic Health Records (EHR).
    • Map new test codes, billing protocols, and clinical documentation fields.
  • Compliance, Validation & Quality Assurance
    • Lead Computer System Validation (CSV) efforts, including writing and executing IQ/OQ/PQ protocols.
    • Author and manage change controls, system documentation, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
    • Ensure strict compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., FDA 21 CFR Part 11, GxP, HIPAA, CAP, CLIA).
    • Maintain audit-ready system logs and safeguard data integrity principles.
  • Project Leadership & Training
    • Drive application life cycle projects, including major software upgrades and database migrations.
    • Conduct end-to-end (E2E) regression testing for software updates and environment refreshes.
    • Design and deliver training materials for laboratory clinicians, technicians, and secondary IT staff.
    • Coach and mentor the application development team on laboratory workflows.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Five or more years of hands-on experience supporting clinical LIS or scientific LIMS applications.

Qualifications

  • Five or more years of experience working in a heavily regulated environment in either healthcare, pharmaceuticals, or biotech.
  • Five or more years of experience with HL7 standards, interface messaging protocols, and TCP/IP data routing.
  • Five or more years of experience administering laboratory middleware architecture.
  • Three or more years of experience writing database queries (SQL) for custom data extraction and reporting.
  • Three or more years of experience with computer systems validation frameworks.

Skills

  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills under high-pressure clinical deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to bridge technical IT concepts with clinical personnel.
  • Project management capabilities to balance daily production tickets alongside long-term strategic projects.
