Responsibilities

  • Design Java solutions for modernizing legacy applications (primarily COBOL to Java via CTU, an automated refactoring tool).
  • Write well-designed, testable code.
  • Solve technical problems, including assisting team members.
  • Participate in code reviews.
  • Spend most of your time on technical/coding activities (development is done mostly on Windows machines, and CTU is built on Eclipse).
  • Handle secondary project-related tasks such as integrating new libraries, customizing solutions, and automation, or other language modernization efforts.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of Java development experience.
  • Experience with Java libraries (Spring Framework, Guava, Apache Commons, Guice/DI, JPA, EMF).
  • Strong SQL, ORM, and relational database knowledge.
  • Practical skills in CI/CD tools (Git, Maven, Gradle, Docker, Jenkins, Jira).
  • Proficiency in Test-Driven Development (TDD).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with compilation technologies (ANTLR, XText).
  • Cloud/Kubernetes expertise.
  • Performance tuning skills.
  • Knowledge of MVS, COBOL, or JCL.

Preferred education: Bachelor’s degree.
