Senior Java Software Engineer

About the role

Trusted Space is seeking a Senior Java Software Engineer to join our team on-site in Aurora, CO or Herndon, VA. The role requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher and 10+ years’ experience. Candidates will design, develop, and maintain high‑performance software applications using Java, object‑oriented design, debugging, and optimization techniques, working effectively in a collaborative agile environment.

Responsibilities

• Supports program objectives to include software development in a collaborative agile environment.
• Works with users to define existing or new system scope and objectives.
• Provides analytical support and technical advice during the conceptualization, development, and implementation phases.
• Assists in the review and evaluation of systems and software for adherence to government or commercial directives, standards, guidelines, and criteria concerning software safety and systems safety.
• Able to lead a small high‑performing team of developers across the full software development lifecycle.

Requirements

• Active TS/SCI Security Clearance with the ability to take and pass a CI polygraph within 30 days or at the customer's request.
• Ability to obtain a DoD 8570 certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+ or CISSP) within 6 months of start date.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field (additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree).
• 10+ years of software engineering or related experience.
• 5+ years of experience with Java for production‑level software.
• Experience with the Java Spring Framework.
• Experience with messaging frameworks (e.g., Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ).
• Experience with containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Ability to work in both Windows and Linux environments.

Skills

• Familiarity with Agile Methodology.
• Familiarity with CI/CD Pipelines (e.g., Jenkins).
• Familiarity with database technologies (e.g., MongoDB).
• Familiarity with the Atlassian Tool Suite.
• Security+ CE, SSCP, CCNA‑Security, or GSEC Certification.
• Knowledgeable in satellite systems, ground‑based mission systems or mission operations.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $130,000 - $200,000. This range is a general guideline and can vary based on scope, location, position responsibilities, education/training, key skills, and business considerations.
