Senior JAVA Developer

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, maintain, and enhance Java software applications
• Support software development, troubleshooting, testing, integration, and release activities
• Work with large existing Java codebases and help improve maintainability over time
• Review, understand, and update existing software as needed
• Support modernization, refactoring, and performance improvement efforts
• Participate in code reviews and help promote good software development practices
• Support build, deployment, and release activities using tools such as GitLab, Jira, SonarQube, or similar platforms
• Aid in troubleshooting software issues identified during development, integration, testing, or field support
• Help mentor or guide other developers when needed
• Collaborate with software developers, testers, engineers, cybersecurity personnel, and program stakeholders
• Support technical documentation such as design notes, release notes, installation instructions, and user/support guidance
• Communicate status, blockers, risks, and technical issues clearly and professionally

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a relevant technical discipline
• 8+ years of experience developing software using Java
• Experience working with large or multi-module Java applications
• Strong understanding of object-oriented design and software development best practices
• Experience with Java 17 or later
• Familiarity with Java modernization concepts, such as records, enhanced switch, modularity, dependency management, or related language/platform improvements
• Experience with version control tools such as Git or GitLab
• Familiarity with issue tracking tools such as Jira or similar platforms
• Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and tools such as GitLab CI/CD, or similar platforms
• Familiarity with code quality tools such as SonarQube or similar platforms
• Ability to work in a Linux environment
• Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively with people at varying technical levels
• U.S. Citizen
• Ability to obtain a Secret clearance

Desired Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a relevant technical discipline
• Experience supporting modernization or refactoring of large Java applications
• Experience with Java platform migrations
• Experience with Bash scripting or general automation scripting
• Familiarity with Docker, containers, or RHEL 8/9 environments
• Experience with JGroups or distributed Java applications
• Experience helping guide, mentor, or support other developers
• Experience supporting software integration and formal test events
• Experience writing clear technical documentation, including design notes, release notes, and installation guidance
• Experience working on DoD, Navy, or other government software programs
• CompTIA Security+, Linux certification, Oracle Java certification, or similar certifications
