Senior IT Specialist

About the role

A skilled and experienced Windows System Administrator to join our contract IT team. The ideal candidate will have 5–7 years of hands-on experience managing Windows environments and a strong understanding of SQL databases. The selected candidate will be responsible for maintaining, securing, and optimizing our Windows-based infrastructure and supporting SQL systems that are critical to business operations.

Responsibilities

• Administer, maintain, and optimize Windows Server environments (2016/2019/2022)
• Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and Windows patching
• Monitor system performance and troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues
• Implement, support, and maintain backup/recovery solutions and disaster recovery plans
• Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server environments
• Write and optimize SQL queries and scripts for system automation and reporting
• Collaborate with development and application teams to ensure system compatibility and performance
• Collaborate with customers, adjacent technical teams and all levels of management to address systems issues
• Maintain security best practices, including system hardening and vulnerability management
• Produce documentation for system configurations, procedures, and change controls

Required Qualifications

• 5–7 years of experience in Windows system administration in mid- to large-scale environments
• Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server (installation, maintenance, scripting, performance tuning)
• Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for automation
• High level of familiarity with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V, and Nutanix)
• Understanding of network fundamentals (TCP/IP, firewalls, VPNs)
• Knowledge of ITIL practices and change management processes is a plus
• Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills
• Strong communication and collaboration abilities
• Detail-oriented and customer-outcome focused

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree
• Microsoft Certified: Windows Hybrid Server Administrator
• Microsoft Certified: Administrator Associate
• CompTIA Security+ or equivalent

Pay

$79.00–$92.00 per hour
