Senior IT Operations Engineer

About the role

The Senior IT Operations Engineer at CloudZero treats IT as a product, focusing on high-quality outcomes rather than ticket volume. They leverage AI daily to automate processes and resolve issues proactively.

Responsibilities

• Own and maintain core systems such as JAMF, Okta, Slack, Jira, and Google Workspace.
• Build automations in Okta Workflows or from scratch to handle tasks that were previously handled by tickets.
• Write Python and Bash scripts to connect to SaaS tools and analyze the Helpdesk queue for patterns and root causes.
• Partner with Security to ensure new tooling is safe by default, not by review.
• Provide responsive support and address root causes to prevent repeat requests.
• Drive cross-functional IT projects from intake through rollout, ensuring stakeholder buy-in.
• Partner with the People team to ensure a smooth employee lifecycle experience, including direct integration with HRIS systems.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience running and configuring IT or cloud infrastructure at a growing company.
• 2+ years of hands-on automation work in Workato, Okta Workflows, Python, Bash, or similar.
• Real AI fluency, using modern AI tools to ship actual work, not just experiments.
• Familiarity with IT toolkit: JAMF (including packaging and deployment), Okta SSO, Slack, Jira, Google Workspace.
• 2+ years of operational experience in GCP, Snowflake, and/or AWS.
• Strong API instincts, stitching SaaS tools together with webhooks, REST APIs, and event hooks.
• A root-cause mindset, addressing the underlying issues rather than just closing tickets.
• A bias for shipping, producing clean outcomes from vague requests.
• Exceptional partnership skills with security, not just compliance.
• A customer-first mindset, prioritizing first-touch support and making users feel valued.
• Experience automating employee lifecycle processes, including integration with HRIS systems.

Qualifications

• Time at a cloud-native or developer-tooling company.
• AV and meeting-room tech experience for in-office spaces.
• Practical familiarity with SOC 2, ISO 27001, or similar frameworks.
• Familiarity with UKG or other HRIS systems is a plus.
• Examples of AI agents or automations built that retired a recurring class of work.
