1Password is building the foundation for a safe, productive digital future. Our mission is to unleash employee productivity without compromising security by ensuring every identity is authentic, every application sign-in is secure, and every device is trusted. We innovated the market-leading enterprise password manager and pioneered Unified Access Management, a new cybersecurity category built for the way people and AI agents work today. Over 180,000 businesses, from Fortune 100 leaders to the world’s most innovative AI companies, trust 1Password to help their teams securely adopt the SaaS and AI tools they need to do their best work.

About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior IT Engineer to join our IT Engineering — Device Infrastructure Services team. This role goes beyond technical execution; it requires a strong engineer with excellent project management skills, capable of guiding complex device infrastructure initiatives from concept to delivery. You’ll drive endpoint management best practices, lead change management processes, and ensure a seamless, thoughtful end-user experience in a fast-paced SaaS security environment. The ideal candidate is technically skilled in cloud-hosted endpoint management and a strategic communicator who collaborates effectively across teams, engages stakeholders, and advocates for scalable, secure, and efficient enterprise device solutions. You’ll bring a strong user experience focus to everything you ship—from rollout design to end-user communication. This role reports to the Team Lead, IT Engineering.

How we use AI

Our Engineering, Product, and Design teams thoughtfully integrate AI across the full software and product development lifecycle to move faster without sacrificing quality or security. Engineers use AI-assisted coding tools to accelerate reviews and catch bugs earlier, product managers synthesize user research at scale, and designers rapidly prototype with AI-generated mockups. We approach AI the same way we approach security: with clear principles, human accountability at every consequential decision point, and rigorous evaluation before anything ships to customers.

We want team members to actively learn AI best practices, identify opportunities to apply AI meaningfully, and drive innovative solutions in their daily work. Embracing AI is an essential part of how we succeed at 1Password.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning and implementation of large-scale device infrastructure projects with broad impact across the organization.
  • Drive IT Change Management initiatives related to endpoint management, software patching, and fleet operations.
  • Manage and administer cloud-based Apple MDM platforms (Iru), including custom configuration profiles and advanced policy management.
  • Apply AI tooling to real infrastructure problems (automated remediation, smarter alerting, reducing manual toil) and help shape its future direction.
  • Own third-party software patching workflows to keep the fleet current with minimal disruption to employees.
  • Approach all rollouts with a strong user experience focus—phasing thoughtfully, communicating proactively, and designing for minimal disruption.
  • Contribute to designing and implementing best practices, policies, and procedures for the Device Infrastructure Services team.
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders across the organization.
  • Be available for occasional 24/7 on-call shifts to ensure uninterrupted support and resolve incidents (USA-based roles only).

Requirements

  • 5+ years of technical work experience in an IT role, with 2+ years in an IT engineering or systems administrator role focused on cloud-first endpoint management.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles and CI/CD workflows applied to device management in an enterprise fleet at scale (500+ endpoints), meeting security benchmarks such as third-party patch compliance goals.
  • Demonstrated senior-level experience with Apple MDM platforms (e.g., Iru).
  • Hands-on experience designing and shipping automation with agentic or LLM-based components in an IT or device management context—and the judgment to know when existing tooling is the better answer.
  • Professional-level scripting abilities in Bash, as well as other shell scripts for endpoint automation and fleet operations.
  • Hands-on experience implementing device trust principles, including phishing-resistant authentication, conditional access, and endpoint compliance policies at scale.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of IT change management and service management best practices (ITIL, etc.).
  • Global-level admin experience with Microsoft Intune.
  • Ability to script in PowerShell.
  • Admin experience with 1Password Enterprise Password Manager (EPM).
