Responsibilities

Primary Support Areas

  • Support annual internal control planning efforts to determine the scope of internal control assessments and testing based on the organization’s risk profile and identified financial risks.
  • Evaluate internal controls over financial reporting (ICOFR) and operations in line with OMB Circular A-123, including performing end-to-end walkthroughs, documenting processes and controls, testing design and operating effectiveness, and reporting deficiencies.
  • Perform internal controls over operations and assessments of improper payments in support of the Payment Integrity Information Act (PIIA).
  • Provide audit liaison support to facilitate a smooth financial statement audit process, including developing and maintaining digital tools for efficient audit activities.
  • Deliver financial statement audit and audit risk management support to help the agency maintain a clean audit opinion and improve internal controls.

Additional/Secondary Support Areas

  • Support financial risk management programs, including maintaining the agency’s financial risk register, completing annual fraud risk assessments, and preparing the annual Statement of Assurance.
  • Assist in developing and executing risk mitigation plans, corrective action plans, and broader remediation strategies to address financial risks and internal control deficiencies.
  • Assess the impact of new guidance on financial operations and support implementation as applicable.
  • Complete Entity Level Control (ELC) assessments, including developing materials, interviewing personnel, and compiling results.
  • Engage in diverse project-specific tasks, such as:
    • Applying analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills.
    • Documenting and evaluating business processes and recommending improvements.
    • Producing communications ranging from informal emails to formal memos, presentations, and executive briefings.
    • Conducting research to investigate client problems and collaborating on solutions.
    • Analyzing projects to identify risks and developing mitigation strategies.
    • Collecting and analyzing data, producing models and visualizations, and drawing conclusions to improve decision-making.
    • Developing or improving policies and procedures for operational needs.

Beyond client-facing responsibilities, this role supports business growth, internal operations, and a positive work environment through activities such as:

  • Assisting in business development, including identifying client needs, developing proposals, and participating in meetings.
  • Participating in coaching and mentoring programs.
  • Developing learning and development materials to expand employee skills.
  • Supporting recruiting initiatives to attract top talent.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD "Public Trust" clearance; candidates must complete adjudication prior to onboarding. Active Public Trust or Suitability clearance preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Five (5) years of experience in financial management, accounting, internal controls, audit, or a related financial field.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration; Master’s degree in Accounting preferred.
  • Certifications such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Governmental Financial Manager (CGFM) are a plus.
  • Knowledge of Federal financial management activities, including:
    • OMB Circular A-123 assessments for internal controls over financial reporting.
    • Federal financial statement audits.
    • Financial risk management, financial policy, entity-level controls, and/or management controls.
  • Experience advising Federal clients on OMB Circular A-123 (Appendix A and C), GAO Green Book, Chief Financial Officers Act of 1990, Federal Financial Integrity Act of 1982 (FMFIA), and Payment Integrity Information Act of 2019 (PIIA).
  • Federal accounting experience, including familiarity with the United States Standard General Ledger (USSGL), Treasury Financial Manual, and Federal Financial Management Improvement Act (FFMIA).
  • Experience working in teams to produce high-impact deliverables in fast-paced environments.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with heightened attention to detail.
  • Ability to create and edit technical and non-technical work products and presentations.
  • Problem-solving skills with the ability to view challenges from multiple angles.
  • Ability to participate in client-facing discussions and meetings.
  • Capacity to synthesize information quickly and learn new skills.
  • Desire to support public sector clients with a national security mission.
  • Commitment to reinvesting in the company and representing its brand.

Proven Abilities

  • Internal control assessments, including Entity Level Controls, risk management, and fraud risk assessments.
  • Supporting management control programs.
  • Understanding auditor-communicated deficiencies, tracking audit requests, responding to audits, developing corrective action plans, and executing remediation.
  • Implementing revised OMB Circular A-123, Appendix A.
  • Understanding client needs, collaborating in a team environment, and communicating effectively to execute tasks.
  • Willingness to learn and participate in business development and internal firm objectives.
