Senior Instrumentation & Controls Engineer 1 - Nuclear
This position supports electric power generation clients digitizing existing nuclear power plants and building new small modular reactors (SMR).
About the role
As a Senior Instrumentation & Controls Engineer, you will work on major process controls engineering projects in the following areas:
- Digital Systems: PLC, DCS, touchscreen displays, network switches, and control systems
- Functional requirement and procurement specifications for instrumentation and control components and systems
- Process instrumentation replacement evaluation reports and nuclear modification packages
- Documentation for design input, including cable block diagrams and schematics
- Vendor interface and equipment purchase specifications
- Reports and studies presenting technical information clearly and concisely
- Development of P&IDs and system design descriptions
- Client meetings and site walkdowns to ensure satisfaction with deliverables
- Mentoring less experienced nuclear instrumentation and controls design engineers
- Supporting station outage activities as required
This position follows a hybrid work schedule, requiring in-office work 3 days per week.
Requirements
- BS degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program
- 5 or more years of experience in design engineering for process control systems
- Technical knowledge of available equipment and proven pre-engineered systems
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience reviewing design drawings created by others
Valued Skills
- Design engineering experience for nuclear power plant control systems
- PE License
- Experience leading teams using automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs
- Oversight of engineers programming or scripting (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks
- Additional learning in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields

Pay
Compensation range: $84,762 – $129,498. Eligible positions include a base salary and comprehensive benefits package. Individuals may also qualify for a yearly discretionary bonus.
