Senior Instrumentation and Controls Engineer
Role Overview

This role is for a Senior Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Engineer to join the multidisciplinary Process Infrastructure and Design team based in Tempe, Arizona; South Jordan, Utah; or Houston, Texas.
About the Role
The team offers diverse global clients and projects in various sectors including Environmental Infrastructure, Oil & Gas, mining, industrial facilities, water and waste water industries, landfills, and contaminated soil sites. The ideal candidate will contribute to the development of I&C design documents, demonstrate clear communication, and mentor junior team members.
Responsibilities
- Develop a variety of I&C design documents such as design drawings, technical specifications, and design basis calculations with minimal oversight.
- Demonstrate clear and prompt communication and foster leadership.
- Work independently and collaborate in cross-discipline teams to meet project goals.
- Comply with codes and standards, governing regulations, industry practices, and internal procedures.
- Develop and perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and technical specifications.
- Mentor junior team members in technical excellence and career growth.
- Review instrument and control systems vendor drawings and interface with suppliers, clients, other engineering disciplines, detailers/designers.
- Prepare and review control deliverables such as Control Narratives, Cause and Effect diagrams, System Architecture Diagrams, Instrument Location Layouts, Installation Details, Wiring & Interconnection Diagrams, PLC Layouts, and Loop Drawings.
- Prepare and review instrument datasheets, I/O lists, instrument index, instrument selection, hazardous area classification.
- Configure and develop programming for controls equipment, including PLCs, HMIs, DCS Systems, SCADA, etc.
- Participate in client and project review meetings.
- Prepare technical bid evaluation and attend FAT.
- Collaborate with project management/engineering disciplines to develop project budgets, schedules, prepare scoping documents, design criteria, and list of project deliverables.
- Promote engineering professionalism and maintain positive relationships internally and externally.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field) from ABET accredited program.
- 5 - 7+ years of relevant experience.
- Advanced knowledge of Instrumentation Engineering is essential.
- Advanced knowledge of applicable design standards governing corresponding design work, such as API, NFPA, ISA, PIP, IEC, IEEE, ISO, NACE, NESC.
- Strong written and verbal communication and people management skills.
- Strong understanding of Field instrumentation.
- Strong understanding of control systems (PLC, DCS) and industrial networking protocols.
- Ability to work with others in supplying information and seeking assistance as necessary.
- A team player attitude and be able to work with multiple projects.
- Must pass background check.
Desired Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration, or the ability to secure this registration within twelve (12) months of hire.
- Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field) from ABET accredited program.
- Design-Build project execution experience.
- Lead the design and specification of field instrumentation, control valves, and analyzers for oil & gas, mining, heavy industries, water industries and process facilities.
- AutoCAD, Revit, and other design program competence.
