Role Overview

WSP is seeking a Senior Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Engineer for our Process Infrastructure and Design team based in Tempe, Arizona; South Jordan, Utah; or Houston, Texas. The team offers diverse global clients and projects in various industries including Environmental Infrastructure, Oil & Gas, mining, industrial facilities, water and waste water industries, landfills, and contaminated soil sites.

About the Role

The ideal candidate will develop a variety of I&C design documents, communicate effectively, and lead cross-discipline teams. They will also ensure compliance with codes and standards, and mentor junior team members.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and review detailed engineering documents and technical specifications
  • Collaborate with suppliers, clients, and other engineering disciplines
  • Prepare and review control deliverables such as Control Narratives, Cause and Effect diagrams, System Architecture Diagrams, Instrument Location Layouts, Installation Details, Wiring & Interconnection Diagrams, PLC Layouts, and Loop Drawings
  • Configure and program controls equipment, including PLCs, HMIs, DCS Systems, SCADA, etc.
  • Participate in client and project review meetings
  • Prepare technical bid evaluations and attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT)
  • Work with project management/engineering disciplines to develop project budgets, schedules, design criteria, and project deliverables
  • Promote engineering professionalism and maintain positive relationships internally and externally

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field) from ABET accredited program
  • Advanced knowledge of Instrumentation Engineering
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable design standards governing corresponding design work, such as API, NFPA, ISA, PIP, IEC, IEEE, ISO, NACE, NESC
  • Strong written and verbal communication and people management skills
  • Strong understanding of Field instrumentation and control systems
  • Strong understanding of control systems (PLC, DCS) and industrial networking protocols
  • Demonstrate advanced ability to work with others in supplying information and seeking assistance as necessary
  • A team player attitude and ability to work with multiple projects
  • Must pass background check

Desired Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration, or the ability to secure this registration within twelve (12) months of hire
  • Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field) from ABET accredited program
  • Design-Build project execution experience
  • Lead the design and specification of field instrumentation, control valves, and analyzers for oil & gas, mining, heavy industries, water industries, and process facilities
  • AutoCAD, Revit, and other design program competence
