Infrastructure Engineering Inc. is looking for great people to join our team! We are looking for a Senior Inspector who will have the opportunity to work on innovative projects such as CDOT, Chicago Department of Water, Evanston Department of Water, and more!

This role oversees the contractor’s daily activities and the work of 'junior' inspectors. We are a leading engineering firm known for quality and responsiveness; we also have a proven track record of success as a Prime civil engineering firm.

Responsibilities

  • Performs the full range of duties assigned, including skilled construction inspection, authority, and uses required higher levels of technical education and training.
  • Reviews and comments on standards, plans, specifications, special provisions, manufacturers’ material specifications, applicable regulations, and technical and constructability issues.
  • Observes work in all stages of progress to ensure conformance with standards, safety, and other applicable regulations and contract requirements; assesses construction methods against industry standards; reviews workmanship and sequence of operations; monitors project schedules.
  • Responsible for overseeing the daily activities of the inspection personnel and seeing to it that they complete detailed and thorough daily activity reports, accepting or rejecting the contractor’s work.
  • Performs quantity calculations and measurements of contract bid items for progress pay estimate. Provides lead direction and training to assigned personnel.
  • Oversees and performs basic survey work to confirm alignment, grades, etc. Ensures construction materials are acquired from approved sources.
  • Covers coordination, inspection, review, and affirmation of results of tests on construction materials such as concrete, asphalt, aggregates, and soils. Takes existing conditions and progress photographs, issues notice or letters, and uses computer database for reporting and record keeping.
  • Maintains awareness of safety and health requirements and assures compliance with applicable regulations and contract provisions to protect the public and construction project personnel.
  • Ensures that the contractor applies the Occupational Health and Safety Act and adheres to environmental and Waste Management requirements.
  • Keeps the Resident Engineer informed of conditions that could result in contract change orders and/or delays and assists in proactively resolving these situations.
  • Supervises/performs quality assurance inspections to achieve compliance with contract plans and specifications on all phases of highway and bridge construction, such as paving, structures, striping, grading, sewer, water, utility relocations, electrical installation, sign installation, and landscaping items.
  • Performs quantity calculations and measurements of contract bid items for progress pay estimates and keeps accurate daily records of time and material used to perform extra work items not covered by the contract documents.
  • Identifies and documents material and construction deficiencies.
  • Finalizes contract items with a general contractor and a client.
  • Affords assistance in the preparation of As-Built plans.
  • Identifies out-of-scope work as outlined in IEI’s scope of services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering/Construction Management or equivalent
  • Minimum six (6) years of roadway, highway, and/or bridge construction experience
  • A valid certificate of “Documentation of Contract Quantities.”
  • Certificate of OSHA 10 or 30-hour training within 5 years
  • Erosion and Sediment Control training
  • Knowledge of industry Standards and Specifications for different agencies in IL (CDOT, IDOT, Tollway, CDWM, CTA, CDA, etc.)
  • Extensive knowledge of standards, specifications, physical characteristics, and properties of roadway, structures, drainage, and utility systems construction materials and the approved methods and equipment used in making physical tests of construction materials.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices used for construction inspection to test different types of soils, survey methods, concrete and asphalt construction, state and local agencies specifications, laws, rules, ordinances, and regulations related to construction inspection, safe work practices, and procedures.

Pay

$80,000 - $120,000 per year
