Senior Inspector
About the role
CEI Senior Inspector Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, LLC (ICE) is actively seeking a CEI Senior Inspector to join our Construction Engineering & Inspection (CEI) team to support various transportation projects with the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT).
Responsibilities
- Provide daily observation of construction activities and document activities on required reports/forms.
- Review construction materials for contract and specification compliance.
- Inspect roadways and structures for conformance to plans and specifications.
- Evaluate structural materials, placement of culverts, and structural operations such as foundation excavation.
- Monitor placement of pilings, reinforcing and structural steel, concrete, and backfill.
- Verify lines, grades, dimensions, and elevations using survey and field engineering equipment.
- Perform accurate calculations and computations.
- Sample and test construction materials to ensure they meet the quality requirements of the project specifications.
- Document and immediately report any non-compliance actions and safety violations to your immediate supervisor.
- Record Daily Work Reports to include quantities in Site Manager and for American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASTHO) projects.
Qualifications
- Above average math and problem-solving skills are required.
- Ability to adapt to new technologies and quickly learn new computer skills.
- Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in English.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the US.
- Must have a current driver’s license with a safe driving record; ICE is a drug-free workplace.
Education and Experience Requirements
- CEI Inspector: High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate or BS degree in Civil Engineering is a plus. Two years of CEI experience working on roadway and bridge inspection is desired. Experience working on SCDOT projects is desired. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
- Mid-Senior CEI Inspector: High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate or BS degree in Civil Engineering is a plus. Minimum of 5 years of CEI experience working on roadway and bridge inspection is required. Experience working on SCDOT projects is desired. Experience coordinating inspection teams is preferred. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
Certification Requirements
- Candidates must possess or be able to obtain the following certifications at the time of Notice to Proceed (NTP): SCDOT ARTEarthwork and BaseConcrete Level 1 & 2ACI Field Concrete Technician
Physical Demands
This position requires minimal lifting of up to 50 pounds sometimes on a frequent basis. The employee must be able to travel and tour work sites under adverse environmental conditions, not limited to loud noise levels, high dust and dirt, and extreme temperature. The employee must be able to visually examine construction materials and finished structures and work in various types of weather and field conditions, including heights, uneven terrain, highway traffic, hazards of highway construction sites and heavy equipment.
