Senior Infrastructure Design Engineer
About the Role
Responsible for the engineering of various and complex aspects of both physical and cloud-hosted data center infrastructures, including network, compute, storage, platform, middleware, database, and telephony. Independently analyze current and future requirements to design data center infrastructure, networking, and telephony systems while assessing technical and economic feasibility. Develop and maintain technical standards, procedures, and documentation in partnership with service partners.
Compile and analyze operational data, direct proof of technology, and establish standards for new designs or modifications to existing equipment, systems, or processes. Partner and consult with technical, business, project, and management staff to identify and plan data center and cloud infrastructure designs, assess physical data center requirements, and resolve design challenges.
Responsibilities
- Independently plan and develop complex engineering designs for network, compute, telephony, platform, middleware, and database solutions.
- Own and maintain technology currency and capacity planning to support established SLAs.
- Define hardware and software performance standards.
- Serve as an infrastructure subject matter expert (SME), providing expertise in emerging technologies with strategic vendors.
- Participate in software and hardware licensing, financial, and capacity activities to optimize data center technology.
- Proactively consult with IT, business areas, and vendors affected by network or data center infrastructures.
- Execute detailed infrastructure design for complex internal projects in collaboration with IT stakeholders and partners.
- Ensure operational readiness through engineering, planning, coordination, and execution of performance analysis, systems support, incident resolution, software installation, and upgrades.
- Provide guidance and consultation for production incident resolution.
- Maintain standardized guidelines, procedures, and schedules to improve workflow efficiencies.
- Build collaborative relationships with the broader architecture community to maintain technical roadmaps and contribute to strategies and standards.
- Collaborate with vendors to ensure infrastructure designs meet architectural specifications.
- Present new technology overviews to IT and enterprise leadership.
- Mentor and assist less experienced team members as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree (where required). In lieu of a degree, 7+ years of experience in a related field.

Bonus Qualifications
- Experience administering AWS cloud environments and enterprise Linux systems, including RHEL 9 and AIX.
- Hands-on expertise with Ansible and Ansible Tower for infrastructure automation and configuration management.
- Experience utilizing Red Hat Satellite for system lifecycle management, patching, and compliance.
- Knowledge of patch management and vulnerability remediation in large-scale enterprise environments.
- Understanding of security best practices and vulnerability management methodologies.

Pay
Salary range: $107,901.00 – $172,642.00. Starting salaries are typically planned near the middle of the range and reflect market standards. Compensation decisions consider experience, training, specialized skills, licensure, certifications, and business needs. Base salary is part of a Total Rewards package that includes an annual incentive bonus, 401(k) with employer match, paid time off (PTO), and competitive health and wellness programs.
Schedule
Hybrid Flex approach: Work in the office at least two days a week for collaboration and connection, with flexibility to work remotely. Remote Flex roles require a few in-office visits annually for meaningful collaboration. Onsite expectations will be discussed during the interview process.
