About the role

Vast is seeking a Senior Industrial Designer to support the development of systems for artificial-gravity human-rated space stations. The ideal candidate will translate technical requirements, engineering constraints, and human factors into compelling, production-ready hardware.

Responsibilities

  • Translate technical requirements and engineering constraints into design solutions that meet human factors and usability needs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineers, product managers, and other designers to ensure designs are feasible and manufacturable.
  • Contribute to the conceptualization and development of vehicle aesthetics, ergonomics, and functionality.
  • Work closely with manufacturers to ensure designs can be produced efficiently and effectively.
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in industrial design, materials science, and manufacturing processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in industrial design or a related field.
  • Experience working on complex projects involving multiple stakeholders and disciplines.
  • Strong understanding of human factors and ergonomics.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar tools.

Qualifications

  • Passion for space exploration and a commitment to advancing the state of the art in space technology.
  • Experience with space systems design and familiarity with space-related terminology and concepts.
  • Knowledge of materials science and manufacturing processes relevant to aerospace applications.
  • Understanding of the regulatory environment for space systems and components.
