Senior IBM Netcool Engineer
About the role
Support and optimize enterprise event management platforms using IBM Netcool/Omnibus. This role involves designing, administering, and enhancing Netcool infrastructure, with a focus on event correlation, automation, and system integration to ensure high availability and reduce alert noise.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain IBM Netcool/Omnibus infrastructure for enterprise-wide event management.
- Develop and optimize ObjectServer configurations, triggers, and automation procedures.
- Administer Linux systems (RHEL) hosting Netcool/Omnibus components.
- Manage Oracle database schemas for data management, integrations, and reporting related to Netcool backend databases.
- Create and maintain event correlation rules, filters, and enrichment policies to improve signal-to-noise ratio.
- Monitor platform performance and execute tuning strategies for optimal operation.
- Configure probes for multi-vendor monitoring tool integration.
- Develop and implement webhook integrations with third-party monitoring and ITSM platforms.
- Create automation workflows using scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Perl to streamline event processing and incident management.
- Collaborate with observability teams to onboard new monitoring sources.
- Apply ITIL-aligned event management best practices and maintain comprehensive technical documentation and operational procedures.
- Participate in change management processes and ensure proper configuration management.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with IBM Netcool/Omnibus (ObjectServer, Probes, Gateways).
- Strong understanding of Netcool architecture, including OMNIbus, Impact, WebGUI/Dash, and Message Bus.
- 3+ years of Linux system administration experience (user management, file systems, networking, security).
- Working knowledge of Oracle database administration, including SQL queries and performance monitoring.
- Proficiency in scripting languages: Bash, Python, or Perl.
- Knowledge of event management best practices and ITIL principles.
- Familiarity with network protocols such as SNMP, Syslog, HTTPS/REST APIs.
- Understanding of enterprise IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, applications, and databases.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience integrating Dynatrace or ServiceNow with Netcool via webhooks or APIs.
- Knowledge of additional observability tools like Splunk or Control-M.
- IBM Netcool Impact or OMNIbus scripting experience.
- Certifications related to Netcool/Tivoli products.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
